I often get asked if I am a family photographer, a real estate photographer or a brand photographer, and my answer is always the same.
Yes.
But what could these three possibly have in common?
A story.
Let me explain...
When it comes to real estate, brand, and lifestyle photography, one thing that ties them all together is the importance of storytelling. Whether it's showcasing the features of a property, the personality of a brand, or the lifestyle of an individual, family or group, the goal is always to create a compelling narrative that will resonate with the viewer.
In real estate photography, the story is all about the property itself. A good real estate photographer will use their skills to highlight the best features of a home and create a sense of warmth and inviting atmosphere. They'll use angles and lighting to make rooms look larger, and use staging techniques to make the home look more lived-in and comfortable. By creating a narrative that makes the viewer feel like they could see themselves living in the home, the photographer is more likely to help the property sell.
Brand photography is similar in that it also tells a story, but in this case, the story is about the brand itself. A good brand photographer will use their skills to showcase the personality and values of a brand in a way that is authentic and relatable. They'll use lighting and composition to create a certain mood or tone, and they'll use styling to create a sense of consistency and cohesion. By creating a narrative that makes the viewer feel like they understand and relate to the brand, the photographer is more likely to help the brand build trust and loyalty with its audience.
Finally, lifestyle photography is all about storytelling as well. It's about capturing the essence of a particular group, family or individual in a way that is both authentic and aspirational. A good lifestyle photographer will use their skills to create a sense of movement and energy, and they'll use composition and lighting to create a sense of depth and dimension. By creating a narrative that captures the feeling and meaning behind it all, the client is given images that they can put on their wall to proudly look back on your years to come.
So you see, whether it's real estate, brand or lifestyle photography, the key to creating compelling and effective images is storytelling. By understanding the narrative and creating a sense of authenticity, photographers can help properties sell, brands build trust, and provide people with collections timeless memories.
This is my favourite aspect of photography, and I would love to hear your story and help you share it.
