Arn’t I cute?! Want to know why I do photography? This is me, totally contentedly, happily, colour clashingly (is that a word?)me.
My dad took this image, I was about four at the time and we were camping on the beach in Tofino.
It’s a great portrait of who I was as a child. This girl was happily uncomfortable in the rain, focussed on an activity, enjoying nature. Chill. And I still love to sit beside a campfire and burn down a stick. Draw with the charcoal, poke the fire with the stick, go find a new stick and do the whole thing over again.
My Mom and Dad had film cameras and they documented us and our life in a very real way. When I look through our photos albums (yes, I am the keeper off alllllll the many albums) It takes me back and I get the privilege of reliving our adventures and, more importantly to me, our daily lives.
It has taken me until recent years to realize that while I love photography, what I am truly passionate about is documenting peoples lives so that they can enjoy it later. Just like I do.
