“you’re too expensive”

I hear ya, times are tough. I understand everyone’s budgets exist differently.

However when I hear this I have a very distinct memory that pops in my head…

I have kept this experience a sealed one, but Im going to share with you why when you hire a professional you should expect to pay professional pricing. And today it’s not a lesson in insurance fees, taxes, and cost of doing business…

I’ll add a trigger warning here: discussion of loss.

When someone tells me I charge “an arm and a leg” I flash back to 2021.

I was pregnant with our third baby, and working hard to bring an income in for my family. I was flying every weekend, planning elopements, bending over backwards to last minute requests, not charging for changes and extras asks, and I was working hard to provide my clients with an exceptional service.

This day was normal. I woke up, ate a protein rich breakfast, grabbed my gear and headed to the mountains. I greeted my couple, we smiled and laughed in excitement. We signed waivers for the helicopter, and we went to load up.

And I felt something that pregnant woman do not feel. I looked at the pilot and asked if we could hold for 5 minutes, I dropped my bag and I moved as quickly as I could to not startle my clients.

I ran into the office asking if anyone had a pad. The lady looked at my belly and her face was terrified.

I texted my husband and let him know that I thought I was losing the baby.

The vendor I was working with knocked on the door. My 5 minutes must have been up, which made sense cause it felt like an eternity in that bathroom shall. He asked if I was ok. I told him the same thing I told my husband.

We conversed quickly about lack of options and then I wiped my tears, and I walked back and boarded the heli.

I shot an entire elopement thinking I was losing my baby. There was no one to come save me, there was no changing dates, there was no calling in sick. There was no way around what needed to be done. I needed to do my job.

I charge what I charge because I work incredibly hard. I pay taxes. I do things legally. I care about my clients.

I show up.
