2.5 years, one death, and two moves later we finally finished the book. Last night we celebrated with so many beautiful humans at Analog Books Inc and it was so soul filling I can’t even begin to put it into words.

To everyone who came out, bought a copy, or cheered me on from the sides encouraging me to not shelve it permanently, thank you. I never thought I’d have a community here but, overwhelmingly I do. And catch us talking about it on cbc on Saturday! (Don’t know when exactly? So. Tune in at some point lol)

2.5 years later. It’s finally available for preorder. I am so happy and so very relieved it’s going to be moving through the world soon. ✨For The Belly official book announcement✨

It’s been 2+ years in the making to finalize the design of this book, but I finally finished it. As I currently wait to receive the first ever proof of this immense labour of love, I am overwhelmed with emotions that vary from joy all the way to grief. The loss of my best friend shelved this project for a long time, I found it hard to move forward on anything. Still often do.

But… this book isn’t for me, it’s for everyone else. Every person who’s been taught to suck in their belly, to cut pieces of themselves away to fit into a mold. To take up less space. To be seen and not heard. To swallow themselves for another. This is for you.

This book is not only a collection of photos emulating joy and tenderness of very willing and wonderful participants and words to accompany them (by the incredible Danica Sommer) but a living manifestation of our entire hearts, poured onto pages.

This idea was born out of recognizing all the ways we’ve shrank, and it is our sincerest hope that this book will inspire you to BE. Exactly as you are. Right here. Right now.
