Hands up - who remembers writing "what I did this summer" paragraphs in elementary school? 🙋‍♀️

With back to school happening this week, I figured this was the perfect way to reintroduce myself and get to know you a little bit better. So this is some of what I got up to this summer, and it would make my day if you shared in the comments one thing you loved about your summer, too!

Let me tell you about my Elkwater minis, and what I have planned for these beauty little sessions happening September 19!

The location is a perfect mix of lodgepole, leafy trees and pine. It's incredibly versatile, with options to be right inside the forest or have it in as the backdrop. In other words, your photos are going to be stunning whether it ends up being sunny, overcast, windy, or even slightly drizzly, since the trees offer a lot of protection.

And since you're already making the drive out for photos, it's the perfect excuse to steal some family time at the lake or one of the fantastic local restaurants.

Because I believe in making the booking process as easy-peasy as possible, I'm not going to make you hunt around, fill out an inquiry form, or anything like that to get your hands on my session info and pricing. Here it is!

Three options for you to choose from:

🍁Minis - available on specific dates and for specific times only. I promise 20 minutes is enough time for most families - I am super efficient and excellent at getting natural smiles and helping your littles feel at ease quickly in front of the camera.

🍁The Sweet Spot - for families who want just a little bit more variety, and a slightly more relaxed-paced session. With the additional time, we're able to bring more of a storytelling element to your photos, and really make the session your own.

🍁The Full Story - the full length session! When all of your aunts, uncles, grandkids - or whoever makes up your extended family - is all together, this is the one you want to book. Also great for lifestyle, storytelling, and grad sessions.

This light - it's my very favorite kind of light to photograph. If you were to give me the choice between a beautiful location and beautiful light, I'm picking the light every single time!

And when it comes to photographing people, I think framing families and lovers within this warm, golden light goes beyond just being beautiful to look at - it's the perfect metaphor for the kind of all-encompassing kind of love that means family; that means love, that means belonging.

So, in the mad, back-to-school rush of today and tomorrow, I hope you get a chance to slow down - even just for a minute - and feel that kind of love in your homes. ❤️

I was so blessed to have the D family in front of my camera for my first official session back at it. We climbed some trees, ran some races (guess who won??), and got a little snuggly to showcase those family feels.

This photo is from one of the last sessions I did before my photography break. I never ended up sharing any of those photos then, and looking at this one now, I still feel the warmth of that golden light and this wonderful family. Beautiful.

Speaking of the break - I'll be sharing here soon where I've been, what I've been up to, and where I'm headed! I am not intentionally trying to be mysterious...I just don't love being on the other end of the camera so have been procrastinating - can anybody relate? 😆😅. I'm much better at putting others at ease in front of the camera than myself.

This past weekend I temporarily came out of photography hibernation to help my good friend Michelle at .b.b.photography photograph a wedding. And what a wedding it was, filled with so many fun fantasy elements including the bride's black dress with hood and cape!

I don't know if it was the wedding theme, it being so close to spooky season or a combination of both, but I couldn't resist attempting a bit of a fantasy edit on this image. I am by no means an expert here, but let me know what you think! Do you prefer the original edit or fantasy?
