Pencilled

Pencilled Providing commissioned portraits drawn in pencil to the Greater Toronto Area. My name is Anna and I'm the mother of three amazing little boys.

Many years ago I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and after too many years working in industries totally unrelated to art I'm finally putting my degree to work. Ironically, when I was a student, drawing was not one of my favourite subjects. I was impatient and drawing took way too long to get to the end product. I much preferred the instant gratification of photography and I loved wor

king in the dark room (yes, those were the days before digital photography became prevalent). In today's hectic and fast paced world, however, I find that taking the time to slow things down and concentrate on the details required to complete a portrait help me to ground myself. After spending many hours working on a portrait I feel a strong sense of satisfaction in knowing that the work of art that I just created will be cherished my someone. Giving a portrait drawn in pencil is a wonderful and unique way to personalize a special gift - perfect for any occasion, such as birthdays, anniversaries, the birth of a new baby and weddings. All that is needed is a digital photo of the person(s) that will be drawn. All drawings are done on acid-free paper. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in having a portrait commissioned.

Here’s a comparison of 2 drawings I did of the same subject matter. I did the one on top about 6 years ago and was never quite happy with how it turned out. What a difference some new techniques and a lot of practice can make!

To say it’s been a long time since I posted something here would be an understatement. Time to get back on the drawing board. I’m working on re-doing the drawing that I have as my cover photo. It’s a drawing that I did a few years ago of one of my sons when he was a baby. I’m not satisfied with the original. I also thought it would be interesting to see how I’ve progressed throughout the years.

Finished my latest drawing today...my youngest frolicking on the beach in Maui. It's a departure from my usual format of close up head shots. I really enjoyed working on this...partly because of the subject matter. ❤️
