When a baby is in the womb, a part of their DNA moves to the mother’s body through the placenta and embeds itself in the mother’s tissues, becoming a permanent part of her. This is why mothers are made from not only their own genetic material, but also the genetic material of their children. Scientists call this occurrence microchimerism.

It's not often that we get to post precious images such as these. Thank you so much to this family for allowing us to share them with everyone! We are grateful that mommy was well prepped and hydrated for her session, and even more grateful that baby decided to cooperate 🥰.

We like to bring this one back every now and then, as we gladly continue to sway doubting minds 😁.

The fetus' external genitalia are fully formed at around week 11. For 100% accuracy in determining gender, we wait at least a couple of weeks for the baby to continue to grow. By 13 weeks, with optimal positioning, we are able to clearly visualize specific landmarks, viewed only in 2D ultrasound.

2D ultrasound is our preferred method, as genitalia in 3D and 4D can mimic other structures in the womb, such as the umbilical cord.
