, and we got to spend a few hours enjoying all the wildlife at Parc Omega. There is so much to see even in winter. Are you looking for something to do with your kids to get away? Did you get out to see the river smoke and hoar frost at Bates Island? Even late afternoon it was so beautiful. Never seen parliament look so mystical. Ottawa has some amazing places any time of the year but there is something magical in winter.

There are things in life you will never forget. I was at Mere Bleu with hubby feeding Chickadees when a saw a tail of something leaving the feeder area. I wasn’t sure what it was but thought it was something bigger and possibly a bird of prey as everyone started squawking and ran away. It was suddenly so quiet. Not expecting to see anything, I looked beyond the bird feeders to a branch of a tree and there it was, a Merlin, watching and waiting. It was perched on the perfect branch with no trees close behind it and none in front. It sat here for quite a while. I was so excited my hands where shaking a bit. Try hand holding a 200-600 lens when you are that excited. I was hiding behind a tree enjoying this amazing site until he flew off to another location. Thanks .val_photos for confirming what I saw. To note, this was taken with a 200-600 lens and cropped a lot.

Beautiful walk at Pine Grove Trails. It was a cold day, but between the sunshine and being in the forest blanketed by trees, there was very little wind. If you go, park on Davidson and you can walk from Hawthorne to Bank and back. We walked from Davidson to Bank and back. There is a bird feeder by the edge of the parking area so you can watch the chickadees and squirrels face off.
