During snowy winter evenings the view of Downtown from the Old Port evokes a dystopia scene. The skyscrapers hidden in the mist, the streets deserted, no noise to be heard except the howling of the freezing wind which make my fingers numb and clumsy, while I seek to capture the atmosphere with my camera.

I believe that black and white photography is very suitable to capture winter in Montreal or pretty much any other big city. The white snow is adding a contrast to the black of the night sky, the grey of the clouds and the almost empty streets with its dark buildings. During this time of the year only on rare occasions a sunny blue sky appears to cheer us up.

Having this said as an introduction, I hope you will enjoy my winter black and white series, starting with a view of Old Montreal which definitely has a very European touch.

2020 was a year full of surprises which didn't went at all as planned but I am very grateful for the uncountable happy moments of love and care with my family, my husband and friends - despite all odds. After all it was a year of many life lessons and personal growth. Now I am looking forward to a new year full of opportunities.

May the company of loved ones, the kindness towards yourself as well as others and the beauty of our planet, make the new year a happy year for all of you!

2020 was a year full of surprises which didn't went at all as planned but I am very grateful for the uncountable happy moments of love and care with my family, my husband and friends - despite all odds. After all it was a year of many life lessons and personal growth. Now I am looking forward to a new year full of opportunities. It has been already two months since I got up around 5.30am to see the sunrise from top of Mont Royal. At that time it was already freezing with a temperature of - 3°C and the stairs heading up to the view point were quite slippery but my effort was rewarded with an amazing experience! I have returned there a couple of times since then but it's hard to compete with the warm light of the morning sun. This morning was definitely one of my highlights in Montreal.
