The Dorothy Project in National Geographic.

Mission Sköll, our stratospheric expedition to Iceland to film the total solar eclipse, is part of the feature “What Begins When an Eclipse Ends?”, published in National Geographic National Geographic España.

It is an immense honour for our whole team to appear in these pages. For over a century, National Geographic has been telling the story of this planet: its landscapes, its fragility, its beauty. Seeing our work there means finding our own mission reflected in a publication that taught generations how to look at their world differently.

Mission Accomplished!

The Dorothy Project team is proud to announce that our mission to capture the Moon’s shadow from the stratosphere over Iceland was a success!

Despite the most challenging launch conditions we’ve ever faced, our modules brought back exceptional footage from the edge of space.

A huge thank you to the Icelandic Space Agency for helping make this adventure possible, and to the Iceland Eclipse Festival for welcoming us to the land of fire and ice.

CASTING CALL — Documentary host for expedition in Iceland.

We're looking for a female actress, native or fluent English speaker, aged 25 to 40, to be the host of the behind the scenes documentary following Mission SKÖLL: our stratospheric balloon expedition to film the total solar eclipse in Iceland.

Think Cléo Abram's "Huge If True" YouTube channel: warm, curious, genuinely excited about science and discovery, able to explain big ideas in a simple and engaging way.

What this is

August 3 to 17, in Iceland with the Dorothy Project team. You'll be the eyes and voice of the whole adventure: the balloon launches, the eclipse chase, and life in the field with a team of scientists and filmmakers.

This is unpaid, but everything is covered: flights, ground transport, accommodation, meals, plus full access to the Iceland Eclipse Festival. The Dorothy Project is a non-profit organization, and the entire team works on a volunteer basis for this expedition. You'd be joining us in that same spirit, and becoming part of something bigger: our mission to democratize the Overview Effect.

What we're looking for

A genuine sense of adventure and curiosity
Good physical shape: some of our shoots involve hiking through remote Icelandic terrain to reach the Dorothy modules after landing
Comfortable camping in a tent for extended periods
Confident, natural on camera
Valid passport and ability to travel internationally

C'est officiel : cet été, le Dorothy Project s'envole vers l'Islande.

Au pied du Snæfellsjökull, ce même volcan par lequel Jules Verne faisait plonger ses héros vers le centre de la Terre, nous partons de nouveau chasser l'ombre de la Lune. Mais cette fois-ci, à bord de notre tout nouveau module, Dorothy V9, équipé de caméras de dernière génération et en partenariat avec l'Agence spatiale islandaise et le festival Iceland Eclipse.

Notre double défi pour cette mission :

Faire revivre l'éclipse dans un dôme immersif 360° aux festivaliers à peine 24 h après le phénomène !

Et pour la première fois, nous allons tenter de diffuser par satellite les images stratosphériques en LIVE sur nos réseaux sociaux.

It's official: this summer, The Dorothy Project is heading to Iceland.

At the foot of Snæfellsjökull, the very volcano through which Jules Verne sent his heroes on their journey to the center of the Earth, we are once again setting out to chase the Moon's shadow. But this time, we'll be flying with our brand-new Dorothy V9 module, equipped with the latest-generation cameras, in partnership with the Icelandic Space Agency and the Iceland Eclipse Festival.

Our mission has two major challenges:

To recreate the eclipse inside a 360° immersive dome experience for festival attendees just 24 hours after the event!

And, for the very first time, we will attempt to livestream our stratospheric images via satellite on our social media channels.

HEADING TO SHANGHAI! 🇨🇳

We are incredibly proud to announce that our VR film Mission Umbra and the documentary In the Shadow of the Mission have been selected for the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF)! 🎬✈️

Founded in 1993, SIFF is China’s largest and most prestigious film festival. It is also the only Chinese festival to hold FIAPF “A-list” accreditation, the same category as major international festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, and Venice.

This is our 4th official selection !
