The Niverville Nighthawks had an exceptional performance at the 2026 Centennial Cup, in Summerside PEI, going 6-0 during the National Championship. Given the caliber of competition in an event such as this - it is not as easy feat - however one they met with complete dedication from every member in their organization.

Since the tournament-style began in 1996 at the National Junior A Championship / RBC Cup / Centennial Cup - only 9 teams (including the Nighthawks) have gone undefeated. Niverville becomes the 1st MJHL team to do so.

Two MJHL teams have come close, the Dauphin Kings in 2010 when they went 5-0 before losing in the Championship game, and the Portage Terriers in 2015 when they went 5-1 enroute to their Championship Win.

Including the Regular Season, Turnbull Cup Playoffs, and the Centennial Cup - the Nighthawks went 69-7-1 to cap off one of the most remarkable seasons in recent MJHL history.

For one of the newest franchises in the CJHL, and one of the smallest markets (town size), the Nighthawks have etched Niverville onto a national map.

Adam Vigfusson is technically the only other original Nighthawk from Niverville’s inaugural year, having dressed for 1 game in the new franchise’s 2022-23 opening season.

The 2005 born Gimli, MB Forward was drafted by the Nighthawks from the Interlake Lightning MU18HL.

Vigfusson came into the 2023-24 season with some great experience having played as an AP for the Arborg Ice Dawgs of the CRJHL & Stonewall Jets of the MMJHL.

He had a breakout season in 2024-25 where he tallied 62 Points in 46 games played.

Plagued with a few injuries this season - Adam maintained stellar stats in 2025-26 accumulating 61 Points in 40 Games played.

Where he truly stood out - was the Turnbull Cup Playoffs & the Centennial Cup. During the MJHL Playoffs, Vigfusson scored 10 Goals & tallied 9 Assists in 13 games played.

At the National Championship in Summerside, PEI, he was a dominant force stacking 12 Points in just 6 games.

Adam has committed to the York University Lions for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Congrats Adam! - and best of luck in the USports program.

The final original Nighthawk from the franchise’s inaugural season is leaving the nest as a League and National Champion.

Merik Boles — from Lorette, Manitoba — is the last remaining franchise player from the inception of the Niverville Nighthawks. Coming off a strong season with the Eastman Selects, Boles suited up on opening night at the Niverville Community Resource and Recreation Centre on September 17, 2022, as the expansion Nighthawks played the first home game in franchise history.

The 2005-born forward appeared in 215 regular season games, recording 52 goals and 101 assists for 153 points.

Boles was instrumental in the team’s first Turnbull Cup Championship, posting 14 points in 12 playoff games.

Following an exceptional season and playoff run, he added 2 goals and 6 assists in 6 games at the Centennial Cup, helping bring the national championship back to Manitoba for the first time since 2015, when the Portage Terriers captured the title on home ice as tournament hosts.

Boles has committed to the University of Regina, where he will suit up for the Cougars next season.

Congratulations on an outstanding Junior career, Merik!

How about dem Nighthawks! The Niverville Nighthawks (MJHL) remain the last undefeated team in the 2025/26 . Adam Vigfusson led the way with 3 Goals 🎩🎩🎩 in this afternoon’s 6-4 victory over the Canmore Eagles (AJHL). The Nighthawks have guaranteed themselves a spot in the playoffs; the possibility of a bye into the Semi-Finals is likely (but will wait for that confirmation to come officially).

Niverville now has 2 Regulation Wins & 1 Overtime Win, giving them 8 Points in the Standings - the same as Canmore, but Niverville has more Goals For, and of course they just defeated the Eagles which technically gives them 1st Place in their Pool.

The Nighthawks have one more Preliminary game left tomorrow - where they face the Rockland Nationals (CCHL).

Canmore has no games left in the Preliminary Round.

An interesting Day 5 at the saw some wild scores & interesting dynamics in the standings:

Game 12:
The day got started with Flin Flon (SJHL) picking up their first Win of the tournament - downing Sudbury (NOJHL) 6-4. Rhett Ewen scored 2G, while Reid Arberry & Landon Alexander had 1G & 1A each. The Bombers who had a hard time scoring prior to this game, certainly made up for that in today’s contest.

Game 13:
Unfortunealty we couldn’t gain access to the stats on the main page for this game - but the Rockland Nationals (CCHL) defeated the Thunder Bay North Stars (SIJHL) 8-2. The Nats have one game left, against Niverville this Wednesday.

Game 14:
The lesson for any hockey analyst is not make any assumptions in an Event of this caliber. The Truro Bearcats (MHL) put an exclamation point on their Win today, as they downed the Toronto Patriots (OJHL) 6-1. Toronto, who had won their first two contests, came up against a hungry Bearcats team who had only scored 3 goals in 2GP prior to this evening’s match. Six different Bearcats found the back of the net while Louca Connolly stopped a whopping 40/41 shots for the Win.

Centennial Cup / Day 4:

Only 2 games were on the schedule this

First off (Game 10) had the Truro Bearcats (MHL) facing Collége Français de Longueuil (LHJQAAA). Quite the defensive pairing between these 2 - Truro prevailing 2-1, picking up a vital 3 points in the standings. Louca Connolly got the Win in net stopping 34/35 shots faced. But a special mention should go to Longueuil’s Mathis Lacroix-Goulet who has only allowed 2GA in 2GP so far this tournament. Albeit there is much hockey to go, we have a 3 way tie for 2nd in this Pool, halfway through the Preliminary Round.

The second game today (Game 11) saw the Canmore Eagles (AJHL) defeat the host Summerside Western Capitals (MHL) 5-1. Alexander Scheiwiller has continued to dominate the Eagles’ net - posting a 1.67 GAA after 3GP. Cohen Daoust scored 2G, and Reid Larson had 1G & 1A for Canmore - who have now at least secured a spot in the Quarterfinals. Their final Preliminary contest will come Tuesday as they face the Niverville Nighthawks, who are undefeated as well with 1 Regulation & 1 Overtime Win.

to all the awesome Mom’s out there! Wish we had shots of each and every one of you. Enjoy your special day 💐

Day 3 / Centennial Cup

Today’s action saw a few dominant performances, and one where home ice advantage truly helped a solid group of host players keep their team in good standing through the tournament thus far.

The Niverville Nighthawks (MJHL) remain 1 of only 4 undefeated teams left in the National Junior A Championship in it’s early stages - thanks to a 7-2 convincing Win over the Thunder Bay North Stars (SIJHL). Kole Mears & Adam Vigfusson both notched 2G each to temporarily move the Nighthawks into 1st in their Pool (based on GF).

The Toronto Patriots (OJHL) once again opened the flood gates on the scoresheet - downing the Flin Flon Bonbers (SJHL) 7-2 this afternoon. Cole Cooksey had another dominant performance netting 1G & 2A, while Luciano Bruno had his own marvellous game with 2G & 1A. Bhodi Ryan & Tommy Karmiris had 3A each, while Owen McGuckin & Hudson Cummins scored 2G’s a piece. Toronto is the only undefeated team in Regulation.

We said it earlier - that home crowd in Summerside can bring the energy & that they did - as the tournament hosts (MHL) doubled up on the Rockland Nationals (CCHL) 4-2. Owen MacPherson is credited with the GWG, which helps Summerside earn valuable points in the Preliminary Standings.
