The Maternity Waiting Homes are a lifeline for pregnant women in Amhara, Ethiopia. AYZOSH continues the legacy of SafeHands encouraging all pregnant women to make the journey to the Maternity Waiting Home 2-3 weeks prior to the delivery, aware that they have access to 24 hour care in the adjacent health centre. The women enjoy 3 meals a day and a twice daily traditional coffee ceremony- a time for educational discussion in the lead up to delivery.
