Within the next 24 hours, a federal election will be called and this election will determine who leads Canada in what is now an existential trade war. Since confederation in 1867 Canada has been faced with the threat of being acquired by the USA “Manifest Destiny” as the Americans call it. Never has that threat been more menacing and real than today. Trump talks about Canada as becoming the 51st state, and offensive and ignorant as these remarks are, we must accept that he really means it and we need to resist to prevent it ever happening. This means that Canada must be united, strong and focused. We must not allow the Americans to exploit the various regional and political differences in Canada as a way to divide and conquer. The coming election will decide who our leader will be in this battle and we all must decide for ourselves which leader is most capable to IN THIS ORDER (1) Protect and defend a sovereign Canada and (2) Support our individual partisan goals. This election will be fought as a partisan election. But I believe that once the election has determined who will be lead, then we all must get behind that person and any partisan interests must be secondary. Indeed, I would like to see all political parties form a national consensus perhaps even a national government and not engage in partisan activities which undermine the goal of a sovereign Canada that is strong and united against the American trade war and the threats of “Manifest Destiny”. Vote in the coming election for the party you believe is best able to lead, and then when that party and that person has been determined, support them fully and resist the temptation to be partisan. There will be lots of opportunities to be partisan AFTER we have won the battle with Trump.

Long live a Canada free and united

A little time ago, Jay Ban, and I with the help of Mike Giovinazzo, put on a projection workshop and it was a lot of fun. Mike has already posted some truly marvellous images from this workshop both in here and in his Meetup Group. Mike and I have different styles of projection shooting and it was an especially great pleasure for me to see him in action and I drew new admiration and appreciation for his style. Here are a few of my own results from this workshop.

So tomorrow morning they announce the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature, and every year I predict Margaret Atwood will be the winner.

Perhaps this will be her year. Truth is that I already have her autograph just waiting to be moved into the Nobel Prize collection.

Will the committee of five members of the the Norwegian Parliament whose task it is to chose the winner of the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize decide not to award a prize this year? With wars going on in Ukraine and the Middle East, there is a very real possibility that the 2024 Peace Prize will be withheld.

This has happened several other times (example, during World War 11 and in 1972)
