My client approved a pitch, and then I completely changed direction.

During the pitch meeting, I watched my client's excited reaction as I presented her with a research-based strategy that would reach her ideal audience. She said she loved it and told me to move forward with it.

Then, I sat with it for days, as a gnawing feeling ate away at me. The strategy wasn’t it.

Creatives know the feeling—that moment when you finally get to the AHA lightbulb moment. And although I felt it before the pitch, as I tried to move forward, it disappeared.

For days, I tried to make it work, agonizing over it and doubting myself. And the night before the final campaign presentation, I found my lightbulb.

It turns out my strategy was missing one crucial piece of information, and when I found it, the entire plan was overturned.

Now it was time to face my client and tell her about the change of plans. My mind ran through every possible scenario, and of course, none were positive.

I would have never dared to imagine the actual reaction I ended up getting. “It feels so doable,” she said.

That’s how it should be. A good strategy is simple and gets straight to the point—no convincing necessary.

I’m so grateful for my client’s open-mindedness and for putting her trust in me. Now, let's put it into action and reach those objectives 💪

"If nobody is hiring you—hire yourself."

This is what I told myself after two months of job hunting and networking that got me nowhere.

I was always interested in entrepreneurship, and I knew that my ultimate self-fulfillment would come from investing in myself, but I didn't plan for it to happen so soon.

Imposter syndrome started trickling in, telling me that a fresh graduate can't compete with those who have work experience. And in a lot of ways, that's true. But a good marketer knows how to differentiate themselves and spin it in a positive and impactful way.

And here I am, a month in. I just finished my first official client presentation. The verdict? In her exact words: "You hit the nail on the head."

Running a business means my deadlines are tighter than ever, and most of the time, I feel like I'm drowning in quicksand. But I'm a bit of an adrenaline ju**ie, so I'm reminding myself to enjoy the process.

So, TL;DR: a fresh graduate has more options than we tend to think. We just have to open our minds a little and find ways to offer value and serve others.

I know you're itching to choose your favourite colors or a trendy color palette but you've gotta do the work first. There are 3 key things you have to know about your brand:

1. Your audience - inside out. What they beliefs, fears, dream and ambitions are. Where are they currently and where do they want to go?

2. Your competitors. Don't be afraid that you're doing something that's already done, because you're doing it differently. You can tell a lot by looking at your competition's website and socials. Who are they talking to? What vibe are they trying to portray? What colours are they using?

3. Your brand values. Think about why you're doing what you're doing. What positive change do you want to make in the world with your business?

4. Put it all together to create a brand personality. Are you cheerful and vibrant? Are you bold and adventurous? Are you loyal and supportive? Find the sweet spot between what your audience needs from you, what your values are, and what your competitors are not doing.

Stay tuned for part 2 - we'll be discussing color choices 🎨

If you already have your colors, let us know what your process was like ✨
