Meet Vesta — Co-Founder of VK Beyond Motion
I can’t remember a time when photography wasn’t part of my world. My grandfather was a photographer and ran his own newspaper, and some of my earliest memories are of tagging along on Saturday mornings to deliver papers around Newport, Vermont. After our route, we’d always stop at Wendy’s for pancakes and hot chocolate — with lots of cream to cool it down. I can still smell the mix of ink, prints, and paper in his office.
Ever since those days, I’ve carried a camera with me — back then it was a disposable one — and I have boxes filled with prints documenting my life. Photography wasn’t just something I loved; it became a way for me to hold onto stories, emotions, and moments that shaped who I am.
Growing up, movement was my escape — my therapy. I started dancing when I was four: ballet, tap, and jazz. My teacher Laura once told me something I’ve carried with me my entire life: “Leave what’s heavy outside, and dance it out.” Even now, that memory brings tears to my eyes. When I wasn’t in the studio, you’d find me on the mountain skiing or snowboarding, chasing adrenaline and peace at the same time.
Sports gave me strength, discipline, and freedom. I played soccer, field hockey, rugby — and now as an adult, I play softball once a week just to move and reset. I even spent time horseback riding, volunteering at a ranch in exchange for lessons, which probably explains why I’ve built my own little farm life today with dogs, chickens, and dreams of adding more animals.
My passion for capturing sports and movement came later, though — once I discovered the art of lighting. The way light wraps around an athlete’s body, the way motion freezes into something powerful and poetic — it’s pure magic. I actually have another photographer, Eva Nys, to thank for inspiring me down this path. Her work in dance photography made me fall in love with the art of light and motion.
When the idea of VK Beyond Motion came up, it felt like everything clicked into place. Kat and I have known each other since our dance class days — two creative girls who never stopped dreaming. Photography can sometimes be a lonely journey, and it just made sense to team up for something bigger. Together, we’re blending our visions, skills, and creativity to create art through athletes.
Because VK Beyond Motion isn’t about snapping a portrait. It’s about freezing time — capturing the essence of movement, the story in the athlete’s eyes, the emotion in their body language.
We want every athlete to see their worth, their achievements, and their power reflected back at them — not just as a photo, but as a piece of art.
Our hope is to inspire athletes, both young and seasoned, to never give up on their dreams, to value who they are, and to keep reaching for who they’re becoming.
To me, Beyond Motion means capturing more than just movement — it’s about the connection between the athlete and the art, the story that lingers long after the game, the race, or the routine ends.
