A Great Lakes bulk cargo carrier emptying the holds of salt at the Parry Sound Smelter Wharf last evening. Up to 120,000 metric tonnes of salt are dropped off annually. The salt is tarped for weather protection and then transported by roadway to various jurisdictions as far as Northern Ontario and eastern Quebec for use as a road de-icer.
