Thoughts of appreciation: Last week, I was sitting on my motorcycle on the side of Hwy 140 while flying my drone, and I had multiple people check to make sure I wasn’t broken down. I just want to say thank you to each one of them. It warms my heart knowing that people in our community will take a moment to check on a stranger and make sure they are okay. At one point, a family in a pickup truck stopped and checked on my wellbeing. After a few minutes of chatting with the father, he said that his son in the back seat also had a drone. The son told me that he had a (DJI) Mavic Mini. The son and I only spoke for a moment but I want to give him some words of encouragement. So the following message is dedicated to that boy —>

To the drone flying son of the family,
Your Mini can be a fun toy but it can also be a powerful tool. You have the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective. Share your photos and videos with others. You’d be amazed at the reactions you’ll receive from your friends and family. If you want to improve your skills, get out there and fly more. Try to fly a couple times a week, at a minimum, this will build your coordination and confidence. Practice skills and techniques, these will increase the quality of your footage. I’ve been flying for years and I still practice my skills and techniques. Lastly, have fun and be safe!

Construction of the well publicized new Asahi Kasei plant in Port Colborne has already begun. The new plant will be called “Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada” and as the name indicates, the plant will be producing separators which are a component of the lithium-ion EV batteries. It is unknown at this time how many jobs it will create but it will boost our local economy. The perspective in these photos makes it difficult to understand the vast size of this project. For reference, the tires on the articulated dump trucks seen in the photos are roughly four to five feet tall, and the property is over a kilometre in length.

As requested, photos of the new Forks Road Bridge to Dain City. Progress is being made but according to the Welland Tribune, the bridge opening has been postponed until September 2024. The much anticipated bridge will alleviate some of the traffic on the one and only access road that Dain City currently has. Hopefully, morning and evening commutes will be easier for the residents once it finally opens.

During a trip to North Carolina, ran across this home with amazing cast iron work. If you’re ever in Winston-Salem, I’d highly recommend checking out Old Salem. The area and buildings have been well preserved.

It’s a little cloudy but we’re shooting the eclipse! Please be careful when shooting the eclipse. If you don’t know what you’re doing, then don’t! Better safe than sorry!!

Happy Easter weekend to all! Pictured is the Allanburg Bridge in the community of Allanburg, within the City of Thorold. The Welland Canal has been opened for the 2024 shipping season, which also means traffic delays for commuters. Although this minor inconvenience is only small price to pay to be able to watch the big ships pass up and down a major shipping lane. Consider this, while you’re stuck in traffic cause by the raised bridge, take a moment to appreciate the fact that this beautiful bridge is still functioning at 94 years old.

During one of my drone flights in Thorold, I came across this sunken wreckage. I have no idea what it is, nor can I find any information about it. It’s located along the Niagara Canals Trail, in the area of the Rotary Niagara Bridge. If anyone happens to know what it is, please let the rest of us know in the comments. Thanks!
