I'm back!
It's been over a year since the last I had the chance to do this. My journey to my 4th Olympic Games had to come with some sacrifice, or as I like to say, some investment. This meant having to put my photography on hold so that I could focus , but that all paid off. I became the first Canadian swimmer to qualify for 4 Olympic Games, the oldest swimmer to actually compete in Tokyo, and the oldest swimmer ever under 48 seconds in the 100m Free LC which I did leading off our men's 4x100m Free Relay which set a new Canadian Record and narrowly missed the Podium. It was Canada's best ever result in that event. Proud for what I had accomplished and for who I did it with. Then yesterday, I got back into the water to start training for Paris, which if successful will be my 5th Olympic Games. So yes, I am an athlete. That's how the world mostly knows me. But I still yearn to explore and grow my other identity...the artist. Two completely opposite personalities, yet for me offer the perfect balance of who I am. Even if none of the photos from this morning turn out, there is so much to be gained from the process.

Couldn't get into my darkroom today so spending my rainy Sunday morning designing myself a new monogram logo. Would love to hear what you think!

There is something different about seeing a final image develop in a dark room. To hold a piece of film in your hand instead of a memory card, to create an image using only paper, a lightbulb, and chemicals instead of pixels on a computer screen, to "edit" using your hands instead of clicks of a mouse button... I truly feel like there is more of me in the image and I am enjoying the process so much more.

This image was taken on my recent trip to Budapest where I wasnt allowed to leave Marguerite Island for 5 weeks due to covid protocols. You can see the "through the viewfinder" image by scrolling through my recent posts. Hoping to make prints available soon.

Taken on one of my last walks around Margaret Island. I'm particularly excited about how I see the final image of this one in my head. But for now I am in 2 week quarantine in my apartment (mandatory for everyone traveling to British Columbia) but hopefully I'll be able to get into my darkroom shortly after.

My first post in a while and got a lot to update but will try to keep it brief. I arrived in Budapest, Hungary a week ago for the Season 2 of the International Swimming League as Vice Captain of the Toronto Titans! To make this happen, we are under strict strict covid protocols. So during my 5 week stay here, we are not allowed to leave Margaret Island. Good thing for me is I brought my camera gear and there are plenty of amazing photography opportunities around to capture between training and competition. Here is a shot today underneath Margaret Bridge. More to come.

I really needed this yesterday. Some of you have noticed that I havent been posting in months. Truth is, that wasnt intentional. Last summer, I decided after 7 years I was going to come out of retirement and try to make it to my 4th Olympic Games. That journey has taken all of my time and focus. With less than 5 weeks until Olympic trials, I believe I needed yesterday to recharge. Getting out into nature without any endless menu settings to scroll through or review screens for instant gratification, shooting analog to me is as much about being in the present moment as it is about the final image.
I would love to hear why you choose to shoot analog over digital (or vice versa). Drop me a comment below!

First day bringing the camera out in Lebanon. Photographing the power plant in Jounieh because I have been in love with the red and white towers since we arrived. While looking for the perfect location I found a beach where the locals swim in the Meriterranean Sea. Set up on the water breaks, I found the people swimming gave such an interesting juxtoposition to the looming power plant behind them. A glimpse into life here in Lebanon. Also testing out my new PME51 prism viewfinder.

New print for a very special client! Whytecliff Study No 1, 20" x 20" limited edition #1 of 3 going to my former team physician Dr. Janet McKeown as a gift for her daughter. Janet was a big part of my Olympic podium success and this is the first photo I've printed since going back to photographing on film. Taken on my old Hasselblad 503cx with Ilford Imaging Delta Pro 100 Black and white film using archival pigment inks.
