I couldn't be happier to have been elevated to Craftsman of Photographic Arts by the Professional Photographers of Canada.

While I was unable to receive this designation in person at Canadian Imaging this year in Saskatoon, it does not in anyway alter my appreciation for this achievement and for the friends and colleagues that helped me along the way.

Mississauga, GTA PHOTOGRAPHER SELECTED FOR PRESTIGIOUS REGIONAL IMAGE SALON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
October 15, 2025: The Professional Photographers of Canada is delighted to announce that Mississauga, GTA photographer Brian Ackin has had 4 images selected for its annual Eastern Regional Salon recognizing and celebrating the best of Canadian professional photography.

Brian's image 'A Glimpse' in the Child Portrait class won the prestigious Best in Class award at the Professional Photographers of Canada Eastern Regional 2025 annual competition. He also won Best in Class awards in the Industrial class for his image 'The Future of Energy' and in the Image Restoration and Reinterpretation class for his image 'Timeless Beauty'.

A panel of master photographers judged the best works submitted by professional photographers from Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces as well as other parts of Canada and only accepted outstanding images into the 2025 Eastern Regional Image Salon of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC). The awards were announced this evening in an online ceremony.

The PPOC expresses gratitude to the esteemed panel of judges who dedicated their time and expertise to the meticulous evaluation of entries, ensuring a fair and rigorous selection process. For more information about the PPOC Image Competition and upcoming events, visit www.ppoc.ca.

"We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Brian for a remarkable achievement," said Jay Terry, MPA, SPA, Chair of the National Exhibition Committee. Knowing that you need to learn more is important to any career. Last week, I attended CICE (Canadian Imaging Conference and Expo) 2025, hosted by PPOC in Ottawa. It was great to meet my fellow colleagues from across the country, whom I've only known through Zoom.

We had opportunities to grow our knowledge of business, legal issues, and the craft of photography with amazing speakers, including Michelle Valberg CM, recipient of the Order of Canada. Of course, we were also out and about in Ottawa to learn from masters such as Claude Brazeau MPA, who shared his in-depth knowledge of the city and its unique features.

CICE 2025 is also an opportunity to honour this year's award recipients. While I didn't win in my nominated category, I was honoured to be among the contenders for Best in Class (Pictorial/Floral).

On display was the PPOC Loan Collection for public viewing and the World Photographic Cup Winners for this year. It's amazing to see the incredible images of members printed and on display for everyone to see.

Thanks to the CICE committee for all their hard work. It was a blast!
