Thank you SO much to everyone who made it out to last night's For Viola screening of "We Will Be Brave", directed by the inimitable Chrisann Hessing, featuring Good Guise co-founder and all round genuinely *lovely* human Julian Diego, and moderated by THE -Quire Johnson, multidisciplinary artist and moderator supreme 😎😎😎✨✨✨
Thank you to Julian Carrington (.v.carrington) and Dawnalda Brennan () for creating the brilliant For Viola series, to draw attention to and spotlight BIPOC-led films and filmmakers using the platform of Hot Docs, and for working so hard to bring me on as a curator for the series. 🥹🥹🥹✨✨✨
Thank you to Michelle Boon () and David Knipe () for taking the baton from Dawnalda and being incredible resources and supports as I found my footing with the curatorial responsibilities of For Viola 🙏🏾🥹✨💖
Thank you to Heidi Tao Yang and Heather Haynes () for the wonderful introduction before I got on stage, and for giving me the space to champion this incredible film. 💖💖💖
And thank you to ALL the incredible people at that have worked with us to make this all come together last night, with our screening being the official first event back at the reopened !!!
This could not have happened without an incredible team of really dedicated and wonderful humans and I am so grateful to have been trusted with this role, and so very pleased that this film, which is such a moving look at vulnerability, community, masculinity and mental health in Black men and men of colour, is reaching bigger audiences, and I am honoured to have played a small part in that! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾✨✨✨🥹🥹🥹🥰🥰🥰✨✨✨
