is a village in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Municipal District of .

The Walton Lighthouse is the last original lighthouse in Hants County. It was built in 1873 by Timothy Parker at $620. It was once the brightest light on the Minas Basin in the upper Bay of Fundy. Over the years, it guided ships into Walton port, where they loaded cargoes of pulpwood, gypsum and barite. Walton Harbour was the busiest port in Nova Scotia in the 1950s. The shipping declined in the 1970s, and the lighthouse was decommissioned. It was purchased by the Municipality of East Hants and declared a heritage property in 1992.

is an area of high biological diversity that rises to just over thirty-two metres from the sea level and defines the southwest side of the entrance to . The iconic white lighthouse is a square wooden tower, seven metres high, established in a beautiful wilderness area with a unique coastal barren ecosystem. This area is home to many rare and endangered species, making Chebucto Head an essential site for conservation efforts.

The Mi'kmaq First Nations called the headland "Jipugtug," meaning "The Big Harbour," and is the place where they first settled during summer months to gather fish and escape from the black flies. According to historical documents, Jipugtug or Chebucto (Chebucto is the English word) was the place where they first contacted the European settlers.

This unique piece of Nova Scotia's history needs to be preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Walton is quite famous for its lighthouse and look off but, the true magic is hidden in plain sight. During winter, the water runs from the top all the way down through the black shale rock, creating icicles in many shapes and lengths.

Shale is the most common sedimentary rock, accounting for about 70 percent of the rock found in the Earth's crust. It is a fine-grained clastic sedimentary rock made of compacted mud consisting of clay and tiny particles of quartz, calcite, mica, pyrite, other minerals, and organic compounds. Shale occurs worldwide wherever water exists or once flowed.

Shale forms via compaction from particles in slow or quiet water, such as river deltas, lakes, swamps, or the ocean floor. Heavier particles sink and form sandstone and limestone, while clay and fine silt remain suspended in water. Over time, compressed sandstone and limestone become shale. Shale typically occurs in a broadsheet, several meters thick. Depending on the geography, lenticular formations may also form. Sometimes animal tracks, fossils, or even imprints of raindrops are preserved in shale layers.

Diving in a Decommissioned Gypsum Quarry in Walton
------------------------------------------------------------

Walton Quarry is a great freshwater dive site for ice diving courses during winter. The gypsum quarry changes the pH of the water and the quarry is spring-fed, making visibility uncharacteristically good (approx. 10-15m visibility.)

A flowering green plant (similar to regular grass) covers most of the rolling terrain in the quarry. Parts of the steep walls are also covered by this plant and on the exposed walls, you can see the white gypsum with grey veins running through it.

Terence Bay

Terence Bay is a rural fishing community on the Chebucto Peninsula in the Halifax Regional Municipality. It is located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, 10 km off the Prospect Road, off Route 333 and about 21 kilometres from Halifax.

The area was originally settled in the early 1880s or possibly before, probably by Irish fishermen. Early records for the area include the 1827 Census of Halifax and the parish register of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Roman Catholic), Prospect, whose entries begin in 1823 and include Terence Bay families. By the 1850s, the population of Terence Bay consisted mainly of the descendants of Irish and German immigrants to NS, many of whose descendants still reside there.

The origin of the name "Terence" in reference to the community is uncertain; theories have included that it is a mispronunciation or misspelling of "Terns", or of "Turner", although "Turner" is unknown in the community as a historical surname. What is certain is that the 1865 A. F. Church Map of Halifax County names it "Turns Bay".

The area in which Terence Bay is situated also contains the communities of Lower Prospect at which the RMS Atlantic disaster occurred, and Sandy Cove, at which a cemetery and monument to the wreck and an interpretive centre are located.
