Em Meraki Art I'm Emily Faulkner, and my paintings invite the viewer to pause, and take a still moment. In my case--art!

My work is for those who crave intentional living and a home that reflects the peace it brings. Meraki is a greek word used to describe something done with creativity, soul or love--putting something of yourself into your work, whatever it may be. If you're interested in a commissioned piece of art work, or if you have any questions, feel free to contact me via this page or through e-mail. Please, if you like my work, don't forget to hit the like button on my page :) Thanks for stopping by!

If you're hesitating to take that next step... even if it isn't better than the last, well now you know, and you learned, and you aren't left wondering, right? So in a way, the next step is always progressive ✅️

A couple favourite details of this lily bouquet & tea time painting I'm working on so far. To me, this piece is about bonding time with the girls 👭🫖🌸 There was a tea room in a neighbouring town we used to go to, to celebrate my birthday. (Annabelle's, it was called, out in Kingsville.) They always had the finest display and these beautiful tea cups and SUCH a wide range of cool teas. Was always a fine experience and made a great memory.
What are your favourite things to do with the girls?

For locals, if this event is not already on your calendar, it should be! I'll be offering a few original paintings there, as well as prints to accommodate various budgets. And I'll be happy to share my booth there with a fellow artist who paints floral & butterfly themed artwork 😊

Steps for painting plein air on a hot day

Including them written below in case instagram neglects to add the text to the photos that I told it to...

1. Find a summer outfit you won't mind getting paint/pastel on
2. Grab a hat, fill an insulated travel mug with ice and your drink of choice, slap on sun screen
3. Make sure you close that travel mug properly so it doesn't spill on your bag and the back bench of your car... 🫠
4. Find your inspiration/scene of choice
5. Set up your materials and... begin!
6. Decide on your composition—how will you simplify or modify what you see? Psst...you might want to start with placing your shadows
7. Take photo and video of the process for the 'gram 😜 *optional
8. Enjoy being outdoors :) even if you start to stink (because ahem sweat)
9. Don't panic when the light and shadows have changed an hour or two in
10. Reapply sunscreen
11. Know when enough is enough, you can always come back another day
Bonus: or if you're crazy like me... take a lunch break and then repeat in a new location!

Some progress shots of this rock formation painting. Scroll to the end to see the reference photo, taken in Northern France.
Living in Windsor, Ontario, an area that is ENTIRELY flat, I am always somewhat in awe of rock formations, with the richness of their colours from red, to green, brown, and gold tones. I am certainly no geologist, but man, rocks are COOL. 😎 How beautiful that our earth naturally produces so many organic, unique shapes in a variety of earthy tones.
