Why are sunsets (and sunrises) reddish orange? On the visible light (ROYGBV), red has the longest wavelength (that’s why it’s always on the top of the rainbow), lowest frequency and lowest energy level, followed by orange, yellow, green, blue then violet. Since sunlight has to go through longer distance through the atmosphere (it actually slows down a bit from light speed of celeritas due to more particles in the atmosphere) to get to Earth because it is lower on the horizon, we see the lower energy level colour. Colours are just energy (or frequency) level of light!
