April 22nd, 2025 is Earth Day 🌍

The more time you spend in remote places, the more you start to notice the quiet changes.

A snowline sitting higher than it used to.

A river running lower than expected.

A plastic bottle where it shouldn't be.

It’s the kind of slow shift you don’t always catch - unless you’re there often, or you’ve got eyes on it 24/7.

At Envirolapse, we’re helping make remote environments more accessible from afar, whether it’s for avalanche research, aviation safety, or long-term environmental change.

Better data means better decisions. And that’s never mattered more.

One year underground – and still going strong.

Twelve months ago, we installed a fully automated, flood-resistant camera system deep in the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, a location with no power, no WiFi, no signal… and a river running through it.

Against the odds, our system has captured uninterrupted data every day since.

100 metres of power-over-ethernet along a grotto wall made it possible - bringing reliable power and data transfer for ongoing research and monitoring purposes.

A proud milestone for the Envirolapse team and a brilliant example of tech and environmental science working hand in hand.

🌄 International Mountain Day 2024 🌄

Today, December 11, we celebrate the mission of finding innovative solutions for mountains and extreme environments. It’s about pushing boundaries, adapting to unique challenges, and deepening our understanding of these extraordinary places.

Born in the mountains, Envirolapse brings cutting-edge technology like high-resolution remote cameras and advanced weather stations to help people in the outdoors make informed decisions before and during their adventures, researchers monitor avalanche activity, track environmental changes, and so much more.

These dynamic landscapes inspire us to innovate and learn. We’re proud to support organizations worldwide, providing real-time monitoring and data that powers vital research and safer exploration.

Check out this cool overlay showing the dramatic change over just 48 hours! New Zealand's Ho**er Lake and Aoraki/Mt Cook went from clear skies to a blanket of snow after a late-season storm swept through. ❄️

Our Envirolapse cameras, spread across the Ho**er Valley, are constantly capturing these shifts in real-time, with a special focus on avalanche activity. The data we’re gathering is invaluable for researchers and avalanche forecasters, helping them stay on top of current conditions—especially with heightened avalanche risks at this time of year.

We’ve just wrapped up some business in Bern, Switzerland, and it’s hard not to be inspired by this beautiful city.

The mix of old-world charm and stunning landscapes made it a memorable place to visit. There’s something about Bern that perfectly captures the balance between nature and progress — just like what we strive for at Envirolapse.

Excited for what’s coming next!

We took advantage of a bluebird day recently to head out in the Travers Range, to upgrade our alpine station near Angelus Hut. We gave the system a full overhaul—upgrading the solar and battery bank, and reinforcing the cabinet and infrastructure.

The upgrade now provide data streaming from a new automatic weather station, providing real-time insights on wind speed, direction, gusts, air temperature, humidity, precipitation, ground temperature, and windchill 🌬️🌡️

This setup, along with two cameras, will enhance avalanche forecasting and provide key decision-making tools for local operators and adventurers alike. 🏔️

Huge thanks to the and for their ongoing support! 🙏

So about last night... 😱

This incredible shot from our camera above Angelus Hut and Rotomaninitua/Lake Angelus is a rare treat!

While its main role is helping the with weather monitoring and avalanche forecasting, it’s also super handy for adventurers checking conditions and snowlines before heading out.

And every now and then, we get to witness the magic of the Southern Lights! 🌌❄️
