🎤 The book "Vozes à Flor da Pele " is a personal and collective narrative of the worst and best of what the world has to offer. The stories of 11 women - most of them migrants and refugees - are intertwined with the voice and questions of the author herself, the humanitarian Fernanda Baumhardt.

Fernanda's borderless narrative also reveals, at an adventurous pace, the backstage of the humanitarian world, a sector that is often distant and romanticized in people's imagination. In her constant battle to open spaces for the voices of the communities, so that they are heard and receive the appropriate answers, she is considered an innovative humanitarian, who takes risks and breaks rules to listen and support those most in need.

Using participatory communication techniques, Fernanda helps empower communities in crisis situations by encouraging people to hold a microphone, let their voices out, film their stories, and suggest humanitarian solutions that can have a greater impact on their lives. With cameras and microphones in her luggage, she often enters places most people want to leave: communities devastated by earthquakes such as in Ecuador, and refugee or IDP camps in conflict-torn countries such as Afghanistan and South Sudan.

This entire trajectory has generated a collection of more than 8,000 photographs and nearly 300 hours of footage and testimonials, mostly by women. Like a great chorus in unison, in different languages, adding voices of humanity, dignity, resilience, hope, and catharsis. Songs of joy and sighs of relief can also be heard.

Posting with my own voice - Fernanda here. Only to say I continue my journey as a messenger of the most affected communities, but at the humanitarian coordination level. Often without breath and beat, trying to knock down those walls and agendas so that we can include more local people in the decision-making rooms. It's been 20 months now without teaching communities how to hold a camera to see and value themselves, and it hurts. On the other hand, I have been persistent in trying to increase the volume of all those mics imaginatively plugged into many corners of the disaster zones. Along with a dream team, currently supporting multiple humanitarian responses in Latin America and the Caribbean region. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tropical storms, displacement, gang-violence, migration daily surround my head and heart. Hope is thin, for me and for many. But we must continue holding our heads and light. Hay que seguir. If not, what?🙏🏻
