Model Tests with Ella G. - Peachy Sun

Sunny, orange, peachy, and a little tangy.

That's how it felt on the central Königsplatz square full of classical Greek-style buildings, along with a charming beige colonnade passage.

We met with lovely Ella who just arrived straight from Cape Town.

We were chatting, laughing, and talking. I couldn't stop asking her about life in Cape Town, and kept on thinking to myself how crazy it is - all the different lives we lead, the different cultures we come from, and how fun it is to intersect at a certain point in time in the same place on the map and exchange, share what we've seen, done and learned.

🌫Model Tests with Franziska - Air & Wind

In the marketing world there is all this talk about "your ideal client."

You are supposed to know exactly who you want to welcome for your photoshoots, where, and why.

The reality of it is that it's hard. It's hard to settle on a single profile given either the lack of experience if you have not worked with all possible clients out there, or simply the curiosity and enjoyment of working with very different people in various setups.

If I were to narrow it down today though, Franziska would be the one - my ideal client.

Being a professional model, she wanted to update her book. Having worked a lot with various hotel chains she asked for the location to be a bright hotel room, to mimic the work she does for clients.

Photoshoot with Alla S. for YourHotelMoments & SO/ Das Stue Hotel - When Dreams Take Shape

This shoot took place at a very special location - the SO/ Das Stue Hotel in Berlin.
The hotel's building was constructed between 1938 and 1940 by Johann Emil Schaudt, the architect responsible for Berlin's KaDeWe department store. It originally served as a Royal Danish Embassy, later re-imagined as a city getaway for Berlin's guests, tucked away amid the city's biggest park, bordering the Zoo.
The picturesque three-story library, grand staircases, dreamy spa, original parquet flooring, and colorful interior design accents make it a truly unique property to stay at.

Model Tests with Ella - First and not Last

They say we build comfort and experience in motion.
They say we should practice over and over to get better.
What I would add is that we shouldn't stop doing either of the above.

They say we have long and short-term memory. I'm convinced we also have a box in between.
This box houses not our skills but our fluency. This box hosts those 300 test answers for a week before the exam and erases them 2 months after. This box contains the arrogance with which we jump on a bike and cut corners when we use it daily over the summer months, and erases it over winter. Can we still ride that bike? Surely. Photoshoot with Alexander & Uliana B. - Dancing in the Bedsheets

Perfectly ironed crisp bedsheets, waffle-like soft robes, bubbles in a champagne glass, and a view to die for.

During the much-spoken time of the lockdown now 4 years back, I was working on a beloved project of mine - https://www.yourhotelmoments.com/agency - an agency creating content for luxury hotels, and photography services for guests of such hotels.

This business endeavour gave me the present of the most beautiful time, meeting incredible people, exploring breathtaking locations, and feeling fully grounded in being surrounded by the things I love most.

Clean lines, sun-kissed skin, the feeling of summer and a bit of inspiration from Mario Testino - here we are.

It was a gorgeous large hotel room, playing dress up, and being happy amongst the odd times of the uncertainty which by now we should probably simply accept as a norm.

When I think of France, I always think of charming little cafes, with their woven chairs and metal tables with marble-like tops. Somehow in my mind, it’s not always sunny, rather, cloudy and with a hint of rain. Somehow, there are always lots of older couples around, with some of the ladies wearing hats … indeed, I feel like the French topic always needs to include a hat and an elegant cigarette. I know these are not as much of a thing anymore, but hey, cannot blame the author, right?

When I focus, there is also often a poodle with a red collar present in the scene. Not sure why, but possibly because I see this entire setup depicted on a black and white photo and poodles are somehow a great protagonist for black and white photos - all that fluff, character, and volume - woof!Lights are out, you are in.

Shaking off the last year turned out harder than one could imagine, it's almost as if 2020 has created a web around our entire existence made from the most elaborate silk threads, so thin you can barely see them, so strong you can barely break away. It's that moment when you feel so stuck making one single move it seems fiction that you were able to do this before. Just, how? Easy, kiddo, just a step at a time.

Model Tests with Emily S. - Feelin' Blue

In recent years I unexpectedly found myself in autumn's fan club, which was a borderline crime for someone born in March to be so brutally cheating on the beautiful season of blossoms, and the communal wake-up of nature, humans and ... cats?

It may be that winter hibernation is a bit too deep, or that age started accumulating (meh, nope), but in either case, the "wake-ups" have been slow, tough, and a bit lousy lately.

But spring is spring, and it's about time to leave the winter's "blue" behind, jam some nice Blues just a bit too loud for the neighbors not to hear, get that coffee boiling, jump back into the workouts to rock the beach in the coming summer (hopefully the sandier one, instead of the zoom background we had a bit too much of over the last year). Re-organize the closet, throw away as much as you can, don't ignore the "Does it bring me joy?" approach from the wonderful Marie Kondo (who surely changed the life of all my shirts and pants that live in the drawer once and for all), and bundle up those projects and plans!

Here are some retro-inspired snaps with Emily - we kicked off a pretty intense photo shoot day in Hamburg with this style, and I hope you can feel the energy - working with a professional model who doesn't only know "her thing", but also loves it - that's the best treat of all!
