A lovely day at my cousin’s wedding on the historic Petersberg. Below us, the Rhine ran low. The day before, smoke from the fires in Hürtgenwald, the largest recorded forest fire in North Rhine-Westphalia, had been visible just to the left of this view.⁣

Lake Skadar is fed partly through springs rising from the karst beneath it and feels less like a fixed landscape than something constantly rearranging itsel⁣f.
