✨ Not every astrophotography target has a famous name.

No bright nebula. No giant galaxy. No showpiece object.

Just a small patch of sky in Cygnus.

At first glance, it may look like just stars.
But every point of light in this image tells a different story.
Some stars are larger than our Sun. Some are smaller. Some are younger. Some are older.
A few are relatively close to Earth. Others are hundreds or even thousands of light-years away.
Yet tonight, their light meets here in a single image. ✨
Sometimes, the beauty of the universe isn't found in famous nebulae or galaxies.

And honestly? I think that's worth capturing too. 🌌🔭

🌞 Our closest star: the Sun!

Today I tested my new solar filter and captured my very first image of the Sun.

The Sun is the closest star to Earth, located about 150 million kilometers (93 million miles) away.

The dark spots visible on the surface are sunspots — regions of intense magnetic activity that are cooler than their surroundings.

Unfinished Project 4 – NGC 6888 (The Crescent Nebula)

Despite the challenging weather, I've managed to start another exciting project: NGC 6888, the Crescent Nebula.

This emission nebula was created by the powerful stellar winds of a massive Wolf-Rayet star, sculpting the surrounding gas into the beautiful crescent-shaped structure we see today.
For this project, I've collected 30 × 300-second exposures using my new Antlia ALP-T 5nm dual-band filter. The first results are very promising, showing strong contrast and excellent detail in the hydrogen and oxygen emissions.

However, this is only the beginning. My plan is to continue adding many more hours of data to bring out the faint outer structures and reveal even more of the nebula's intricate details.
For now, here's a preview of the current progress.

🌌 Distance: ~5,000 light-years

Unfinished Project 3 – SH2-232 (The Great Pumpkin Nebula)

The weather may be slowing things down, but I'm still making progress on some exciting deep-sky projects.

This is SH2-232, also known as the Great Pumpkin Nebula, a large emission nebula located in the constellation Auriga. The region is rich in hydrogen gas and dust, making it a fantastic target for narrowband imaging.

So far, I've collected 30 × 180-second RGB exposures and 125 × 180-second dual-band exposures using the Optolong L-eNhance filter. While the data already shows promising detail and structure, this project is still very much a work in progress, and I plan to add significantly more integration time whenever the weather allows.
For now, here's a preview of the current state of the project. I can't wait to see what additional hours of data will reveal.

🌞🌑 Something incredible is coming...

On August 12, 2026, Europe will witness its first total solar eclipse since 1999.

For a few unforgettable minutes, the Moon will cover the Sun, turning daylight into twilight and creating one of the most breathtaking sights in astronomy.

As an astrophotographer, I'm already preparing for this extraordinary event and I'll be taking you along for the journey over the coming weeks and months.

Unfinished Project 2 – M51 (The Whirlpool Galaxy)

The weather continues to slow down my progress, but I wanted to share another glimpse of one of my ongoing astrophotography projects.

This is M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy, one of the most famous interacting galaxy systems in the night sky. So far I've collected 190 × 180-second RGB exposures, but the project is still far from finished.

My goal is to gather even more data to reveal finer details in the spiral arms, improve the signal-to-noise ratio, and bring out the faint structures surrounding the galaxy. Every additional hour under clear skies helps uncover a little more of what this incredible object has to offer.

For now, here's a preview of the current progress. I'm excited to see how this project evolves once more integration time can be added.

Unfinished Project 1 – M45 (The Pleiades)

The weather hasn't been very cooperative lately, so progress on my current astrophotography projects has been slower than I'd like. Still, I wanted to give you a small preview of some of the targets I'm currently working on.

This is my ongoing 2×2 mosaic of M45, the Pleiades. So far I've collected 10 × 300-second RGB exposures per panel.
Please keep in mind that this is only a work in progress. The stars are currently heavily overexposed due to the long exposure times used to capture the faint dust surrounding the cluster. They will be replaced with shorter RGB exposures during the final processing to achieve a much more balanced result.
I'm looking forward to adding many more hours of data as soon as the skies finally cooperate!
