Living Christmas Crib

The Three Wise Men have already moved on, Mary and Joseph have snatched the baby Jesus and fled to the warm cottage. The scent of frankincense and myrrh has almost disappeared and there is absolutely no trace of gold.

Only the sheep and the donkey defy the icy cold, completely without blankets, heaters or hot mulled wine they persevere. Only dressed with their grandiose fur they do not freeze a bit, enjoy the peace and eat a little hay.

Yes, the Waaler Christkindlmarkt is unfortunately already over again, let's look forward to next year!

Christmas Riding Show

I never had a very close connection to horses, although I always liked them very much and found them incredibly interesting. Probably the right time for yet another time-consuming hobby has been missing until now.

Because suddenly, as is often the case, just when you don't expect it, the opportunity presents itself: I had the chance to photograph horses at a friend's performance. It was a huge luck, the light was fantastic and the show was gigantic, I was speechless. A great experience to sit with the camera directly in the arena and to be able to capture these great moments.

It was my first attempt ever to photograph horses. And I think I'm hooked: it's really fun and I immediately have many new dreams of what I would like to try.

So when the opportunity knocks to get into something new, and it's the right moment to say yes, you'll know it right away. Then grab it and don't hesitate, who knows when it will be next time in front of your door.

Landscape. Photograph?

For the first time since I've been taking pictures, I took my photo equipment on vacation this summer. An attempt to put the joy of photography back above making money and finally capture life with all its wonderful stories and not just silent products that have so little to tell.

An exciting experience, with ups and downs, with fun and frustration. Standing at the climbing wall with a huge backpack and realizing that you can't go climbing like that at all. Standing fully clothed with both legs up to the waist in the sea, because I had overlooked the huge wave with the view through the camera. Instead of sleeping at night you find yourself sorting and editing pictures.

And in the end you are happy to have captured this one moment, this one image, and to be able to share a wonderful memory with other people in this way - maybe.

It's a great experience and I'm sure I'll do it more often. I'm curious how the compromise will be between going on vacation with total relaxation and on the other hand the desire to shoot great photos and never leave the camera at home...

The Strongest Of The Smallest

Unimpressed by the size of obstacles, ants eliminate everything in their way. They carry a multiple of their own body size with ease over long distances, they never give up, even if setbacks stop them again and again.

In the style of Jean Claude van Damme, this little insect stands on its hind legs between two rocks and holds a huge seed in the air only with its jaws!

Apart from the immense strength and the unswerving will they muster, they are also far ahead of us humans in one point: The swarm consciousness. Together they pursue one goal: The well-being of the entire population. And by doing so, perhaps without really knowing it, they bring order to their environment and keep the world in balance.

Another fascinating aspect of ant style equilibrium: If you put all the ants and all the people of this earth on a pendulum scale, it would be in balance.

All of this sheds an alternative light on the classic role distribution of small and large, much and little, important and unimportant.

The Little Big One

Time and again, it turns out that the little ones are actually the real big ones. Often overlooked, they act in the background, keeping things in balance and inspiring with their inconspicuous honesty. Those who think they are big should honor the little ones, and those who think they are small should feel really big!

The change of seasons is continuous, inevitable, life-giving and beautiful at the same time.

Did a goddess really have to be stolen to awaken this essential change? Does her mother have to live in mourning for a third of the year since then, just to maintain it? The Greek mythology can be so cruel to explain the most beautiful things...

I like winter, I like summer - and the months in between I like too. It's the change that brings the beauty - if only to remember in the cold winter how nice and warm it is in the summer!

Iced Flowers

Crystals are truly fascinating. They grow on a molecular level, seemingly out of nothing, and form beautiful structures. Ice crystals form extremely quickly under certain conditions - only to disappear again just as quickly and dissolve in water.

On this beautiful autumn morning, the still fresh flowers were covered with a network of glittering crystal tips, in which the light of the rising sun refracted and made the whole flower meadow sparkle.

Only a few minutes later the magic was over, but fortunately I had the camera at hand at the right moment and could capture this moment.

There are a few more pictures in the works, I hope I find the time to edit them soon!

Burning Sky

Every day the sun sets and that is quite normal. But there are days when the sky looks like it won't rise again tomorrow. The sky is burning, the surroundings are covered in a brilliant red light and the clouds resemble smoke from a rising fire.

But don't worry, it's just a sunset. Even a particularly beautiful one as I find. So, as it is also true for so many other things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Sunrise on the edge of the center

Sometimes it can be better to look in the other direction than the rest of the world. During our visit to cannes we were a bit disappointed by the city center with its very touristy character.

But in the surrounding parts of the city we found beautiful places, small bakeries with handmade delicacies, cafes with calm and coziness. In the early morning hours the streets were almost deserted and you could think that time had stopped.

The Land of the Lounge Lizards

A lizard in its leisure suit. Well camouflaged, it lies calmly on its favorite stone and warms itself in the sun. In an emergency, it simply throws off its tail and trusts that a new one will grow back.

Let us also enjoy a carefree life and firmly believe that the important things will grow back, should they ever be lost! To hold on to everything frantically for fear of losing it is not always the right solution.

Monochromatic World

On some days in autumn, there is little to see of the usual colorfulness in this time of the year. The fog devours the light and immerses everything in a monochromatic shell.

But at the moment when the sun breaks through the clouds a little bit, there is the chance of a wonderfully contrasting image and you remember again: The sun is still there, it is only temporarily obscured!

And it is precisely this contrast that makes things so special.
