The final night of the Mawlid of Sayed El Badawy 2024

The Mawlid of Sayed El-Badawy is one of the most important and largest religious celebrations in Egypt. It begins on October 11 and continues until the big night of October 17. Millions of people gather from all over Egypt’s governorates to attend the praise and remembrance and the family atmosphere of the Mawlid. The Mawlid remains a source of livelihood for many people from selling cotton candy, prayer beads, rings, chickpeas, sweets and playing on the slides.

The art of serma
Ahmed Shawky Al-Qasbaji, 50 years old, works in the craft of making the Kaaba cover with reed threads, as he learned this craft from his father and grandfathers. Ahmed Shawky spoke about the art of "Sirma" that the "Al-Qasbaji" family inherited, and was used in decorating the Kaaba cover, saying that this art has existed since the Mamluk era, and was used in making clothes for sultans and kings. He uses imported fabric from Belgium and France, and Japanese-made gold threads, and this, in addition to his mastery of the basics of the profession, provides him with a high-quality product that is easy to distinguish from others.
يعمل أحمد شوقى القصبجى، 50 سنة، فى حرفة صناعة كسوة الكعبة بالخيوط القصب، إذ تعلم هذه الحرفة من والده واجدادة
تحدث أحمد شوقى،عن فن «السيرما» الذى تتوارثه عائلة «القصبجى»، وكان يُستخدم فى تزيين كسوة الكعبة المشرفة، قائلًا إن هذا الفن كان موجودًا منذ عصر المماليك، وكان يُستخدم فى صنعة ملابس السلاطين والملوك.
و هو يستخدم قماشًا مستوردًا من بلجيكا وفرنسا، وخيوطًا ذهبية يابانية الصنع، ويوفر له ذلك، إضافة إلى إجادته أصول المهنة، منتجًا عالى الجودة، يسهل تمييزه
عن الآخرين.
