What an evening in Kuusamo. ❤️
As part of the Nature Photo event, I got to experience a truly special moment beside the rapids of Kiutaköngäs. Inga-Máret Gaup-Juuso performed traditional Sámi joiks in the evening twilight, while Jyrki Kallio-Koski’s stunning photographs were shown on a large screen.
It was a powerful combination of music, nature and photography — and something that felt much deeper than just a performance. It created a strong connection to tradition, the northern landscape and the stories that connect us all.
A big thank you to both Inga-Máret and Jyrki for the wonderful chat, and for letting me share this small glimpse of the magic of that evening. ✨

Back in Kuusamo! 🌲📷

Well… it rained all night, so the video and drone plans had to be postponed. 😅 That’s nature photography — you can make all the plans you want, but nature always gets the final say.

No complaints, though. A warm and cosy cabin, good coffee, a little Tai Chi and the beautiful Kuusamo landscape outside the window. ☕️

Hopefully tonight will bring better conditions for filming.

Later I’m also heading to the Kuusamo Nature Photo events, and I’m especially looking forward to the evening at Kiutaköngäs Rapids.

As the daylight slowly fades and the evening darkness begins to settle over the rapids, Inga-Maret Gaup Juuso will perform traditional joiks from the North. I can already imagine how the ancient sounds of the joik, the rushing waters of Kiutaköngäs and the slowly darkening northern evening will come together.

I’m really looking forward to experiencing this. I have a feeling it’s going to be a truly magical moment. ✨

Gang on the Beach
Just a little evening stroll with the gang. 🦌😎
Under the midnight sun, these reindeer wandered along Sandfjorden as if they had all the time in the world. The soft golden light, the quiet landscape and the gentle rhythm of the waves made the whole scene feel incredibly peaceful.
The waves kept hitting the shore, steady and constant — like the heartbeat of nature.
Sometimes the best moments are the ones where nothing really happens.

Another encounter with the northern forests and one of their most fascinating predators — the wolverine.
This photo was taken at TaigaBear in Kuusamo, Finland, from one of their professional wildlife hides. The wolverine is an incredibly cautious animal, and that comes through clearly in the way it keeps moving and repeatedly rises onto its hind legs to scan the surroundings. It seems to be constantly checking what is happening around it, ready to disappear from the scene if something doesn't feel right.
For me, this is one of the great things about photographing wildlife from a hide. You can observe animals in their natural surroundings without disturbing them, while still getting a glimpse into their behaviour and personality. And this little guy certainly has plenty of both.
Next week I’ll be heading back to Kuusamo, although this time I won’t be sitting in a wildlife hide. I’m going to take part in the Kuusamo Nature Photo event, and I also have some video work planned. More about that later.

It’s always a special feeling when a photograph you have already seen succeed finds a new audience. This image has now received an Honorable Mention in the IPA 2026 International Photography Awards, in the Nature/Landscape category.
Interestingly, it also received an Honorable Mention in the 1839 Photography Awards — with a slightly different title. So perhaps the photograph decided it needed a new name for its next adventure. 😄
The journey of this image has also taken it to the pages of the German travel magazine Merian, which makes this recognition even more meaningful.
I’m sincerely grateful for this success. Moments like these are a wonderful reminder that the time spent waiting for the right conditions, light and atmosphere is worth it.
Thank you, IPA Awards, for this honour. It gives me fresh motivation and inspiration to continue the journey and see what the next photograph might bring. 🙏📷

Have you ever driven north through Norway during a summer night, heading towards the Arctic coast while the midnight sun is shining relentlessly through the windshield? After enough hours of driving, even your eyes may start complaining about those supposedly good sunglasses. I know the feeling — it happened to me again this summer on my way to Havøysund.
Still, I wouldn't really call it a problem. I love the midnight sun, and instead of worrying about the glare, I spent most of the journey watching the landscape and searching for the right place to pull over, get the tripod out and photograph that incredible northern light.
I stopped somewhere along the route and found this view. Photographing straight into the sun can certainly be challenging, but sometimes the light is simply too beautiful to ignore. The warm tones and gentle shadows created a landscape that, to me, feels very much like a northern summer night.
Hopefully you can feel at least a little of that magic in this photograph. Have a great week and enjoy wherever your own journey takes you. 🌅📷

The summer is slowly fading behind us, and with it, the midnight sun has once again slipped below the horizon. Luckily, it is only gone for a while and will be back next summer. Somehow, that feels like a rather comforting thought, doesn't it?
This photograph was taken in Havøysund, Northern Norway, during one of those beautiful moments when the midnight sun fills the landscape with warm, gentle light. My stay there was far too short this time, leaving me with the feeling that there is still much more to discover.
Perhaps that is not such a bad thing. Some places simply make you want to come back, and Havøysund is definitely one of them. Next summer I hope to return with more time, more exploring, and of course, more opportunities to photograph this remarkable landscape.
