It was a proud and historic moment for the people of Vuci Village in the District of Tokatoka, Province of Tailevu, as we hosted, for the very first time in our new Community Hall, the Bose ni Tikina of Tokatoka.
Members of the Tailevu Provincial Council and representatives from various Government agencies in Fiji gathered together for this important Tikina meeting. Nearly 100 people assembled at the village to witness and take part in the discussions.
During the meeting, several important issues were raised by different agencies regarding the responsibilities and duties of individuals within our Fijian communities. One major concern discussed was the increasing number of young people involved in criminal activities, which has contributed to the rise in prison populations. The growing problem of drug use, particularly the spread of white powder drugs in the Central and Southern Divisions, was also highlighted. In addition, the alarming rise in HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections was addressed.
A Police Corporal shared that special teams will be formed at the Wainibokasi Police Station to work together with the public in the fight against drugs and drunk and disorderly behavior in our villages.
Members at the meeting also emphasized the importance of enforcing curfew hours in every village. Concerns were raised about the noticeable change in the behavior of some children and youths today compared to previous years. Many acknowledged the weakening of cultural values and respect for elders among some young people in our communities.
There was also a strong call for joint efforts between community leaders, youths, and authorities, including support from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, to help address the growing issues of drugs and social disorder.
We sincerely thank the people of Vuci Village for the wonderful food and refreshments prepared to cater for the members of the Bose ni Tikina.
Let us continue to focus on working together for a better and stronger future for our communities.
Vinaka vakalevu.
