A friend of mine and i went scouting for shooting locations in the Rakiraki area and we spotted these beautiful creatures on a small sugar cane field. The foal kept close to her mother as i approached them (at a respective distance) to take photos of them.

The very slim horses didn't capture my attention to pull out my camera but it was the connection between mother and foal.

I chose to edit this in Black and White because i haven't uploaded a B/W image in a while.

Sorry it has been a while since the last post. There's been a revamp in my life with a move to Germany. More images to come.

In Tonle Sap, a lake and river system that extends throughout Cambodia. It is the largest lake in South East Asia. A 30min boat ride from the mainland is a village holding up to 1500 in population. It was like watching 'Water world' with the best seats in the house.

When I heard about the floating villages in Cambodia, I couldn't wait to take a trip out to see it for myself. I mean, what can an entire floating village even look like, how does it even work? All I honestly expected was a gathering of scattered houses on stilts along the lake shore, close to water but on solid ground.

What we found instead was a thriving community on Lake Tonle Sap, a lake big enough to be mistaken for the ocean. It took a 20 minute boat ride sloshing through a small tributary to reach the village. During the rainy season, the trip can take twice the time for the villagers to reach the dry land at the dock.

I know I've posted a few of these ones but they all have different variations, mood and action. In March it's dry season in Siem Reap and it can be quite dusty. Temperature is around the same as Fiji (30deg+-) but not as humid. The air pollution is pretty full on - people are constantly burning rubbish that it's impossible to get a clear sky. This image gives you an idea of this. This was a Sunrise shoot at local fishing ground (Royal Pools) a lil out of Siem Reap. with The Giving Lens

During my photography scholarship in Cambodia we were told by our mentors (Andy Yee and Paul Pichugin) we would be capturing some unique moments on this trip. When we got to this monastery we were told to not just take photos but to try and tell a story. These images show a group of student monks preparing lunch, each given a task to fulfil. Discipline to the highest order. with The Giving Lens

On my scholarship to Cambodia earlier this year we captured a lot of amazing moments that holds a story. Here a local fisherman draws his net for another cast.

This fishing method has been around for centuries. Early nets were woven from grasses, flaxes and other fibrous plant material. Later cotton was used. Modern nets are usually made of artificial polyamides like nylon.

Pub Street Siem Reap is the nightlife hub of the town, featuring rows of backpacker-friendly bars and pubs, packed nightclubs and international restaurants. The street opens throughout the day and late into dawn. The main road – Street 08 – is where you can find the iconic bars and clubs and the liveliest atmosphere – they’re well-known for their US$0.50 draft beer offers. Running parallel is Alley West and The Lane, each hosting cocktail bars, cafés, art galleries, and souvenir shops. A 5-minute stroll from Angkor Night Market, Pub Street is great for enjoying a night of bar-hopping in Siem Reap. The whole street is blocked to motorised vehicles from 5pm, making it safe to explore on foot at your own leisure.

Kava Ceremony is an important and a hallowed component of the seven ceremonies that forms the traditional Fijian welcome rituals. Accorded to Chiefs, Tribal Leaders, and high Dignitaries, the presentations and the drinking of Kava signifies highest respect and deepest reverence for the Chief, for his or her people and the land. It's always a pleasure being apart of cultural traditions.

Auckland city is pretty cool at night. The BIG city lights are turned on lighting up the skyscrapers, giant cranes and streets. This night was cold and windy, but my excitement shooting this kept me warm long enough to get a few shots in. You never disappoint Aotearoa.

Colours of Cambodia part 2

We love the view of terracotta paint on temples and statues. Siem Reap has the "all natural" feel of stone and wood; the buildings have intricate carvings and beautiful gold details...we are in love!

The culture is expressed in everything you see when visiting Cambodia, especially through their temples, practice of their religion (Buddhism and Hinduism) and through their food...it all comes to a perfect balance that becomes ONE.
