EN Can we STOP the bouquet toss?
1️⃣ It’s a staged display of social pressure on women.
The bouquet toss is literally:
« Who will be the next to get married? » Modern translation: pressure to be in a couple, pressure to marry, pressure to conform to heteronormativity, pressure to achieve « romantic success. » Women are being pitted against each other for a symbol that doesn’t necessarily represent them. Some couldn’t care less. Others are grieving, single against their will, divorced, q***r, or simply... free. In 2026, it’s frankly disturbing.
2️⃣ It is not inclusive (and often humiliating)
Let’s be honest:
Non-heterosexual people? Excluded.
People in relationships? « Oh no, you’re already in a relationship. »
Men? Spectators.
Introverted people? Forced to participate.
Overweight, disabled, or elderly people? Rendered invisible.
Not to mention the awkward, violent, or humiliating situations:
Shoving
Teasing
Hurtful remarks (« Go on, it’s your turn! »)
Videos that ridicule them.
👉 A wedding meant to celebrate love should never exclude anyone or make anyone feel uncomfortable.
3️⃣ It no longer tells us anything about the couple.
The bouquet toss isn’t your story.
It isn’t your love.
It isn’t your vision.
It’s a recycled ritual, done « because it has to be done, » meaningless, void of genuine emotion, and lacking authenticity.
Today, couples want:
realness
symbolism
respect
choice
👉 And keeping a moment just to tick off a dusty tradition is the complete opposite.
The bouquet toss: harmless tradition or disguised social pressure?
