A bride wrote after her wedding that I was everywhere I needed to be, without ever making anyone aware of my presence. Then she opened her gallery and everything was there.
I keep that review because it describes the exact thing I sell. Not photos. The freedom to live your own wedding while someone you trust holds the record of it.

You are picturing your wedding as one big shot: the aisle, the dress, maybe the first look. What you are not picturing is the two hundred small things happening around it at the same time, and whether any of that gets kept.

This is Cambon in Paris, and I want you to look at what is actually in these frames. A ceremony aisle so heavy with roses you can smell it through the screen, violinists playing from the windows above the courtyard, a bride walking in on her father's arm with her back to me and her whole dress telling the story. Then the room turns into a dinner for hundreds under those arched ceilings, a runway show mid dinner, a stage lit up for a live band. Then it is one in the morning and it is just the two of them, dancing alone in a hallway that has gone completely quiet, her hand in his, nobody performing for anyone.

That is one wedding. Not three different photographers, not a highlight reel stitched from someone else's day. I was there for the quiet hallway the same way I was there for the four hundred person dinner, because the whole point of staying present for a full day instead of clocking hours is that I do not get to decide in advance which part of your wedding is the important part. You do not either, honestly. You will not know until it happens.

So when people ask if the pictures will really look like the whole day, or just the big moment everyone plans for eight months, this is my answer. The candlelight table and the empty hallway came from the same night. That consistency is the actual job.

Save this if you are planning a Paris wedding and trying to picture what a full day, not just a ceremony, could look like.

I got there almost an hour before anyone else and just stood under that tree for a while, watching the light move through the leaves onto the empty chairs. Nobody was sitting in them yet. No dress, no music, no guests fanning themselves with the program. Just wild flowers spilling over the aisle at Chateau de Berne, mismatched greenery someone spent all morning arranging to look like it grew there on its own, and this dappled Provence light doing exactly what I needed it to do without me touching a single setting.

There is a version of my job that happens before the job even starts. I walk the empty ceremony space, I watch where the sun is going to sit in forty minutes, I figure out where the couple will stand and how the light will fall on them when they finally say the thing they came here to say. Everyone thinks the work begins when the bride appears. Honestly the real work is standing in an empty garden by yourself, reading a space that has not happened yet.

I have shot enough gardens to know this kind of light does not wait around. It moves fast, it changes by the minute, and if you are not already positioned when the first guest sits down you have lost something you cannot get back. So I stood there, alone, under that tree, feeling a little ridiculous, just watching chairs.

Twenty minutes later it was full. But this is the frame I kept.

A first dance is the one moment at a wedding where I stop trying to freeze time and start trying to show it. I dragged the shutter here on purpose, let the room blur into gold around them, and kept only what mattered. Her face, his hands, the half second they forgot the whole room was watching. Sharp is easy. The feeling is the harder thing to hold onto.
