There are moments when paper becomes more than paper.

This scarab beetle was created using my own fully custom 6gsm handmade paper, featuring deep shades of blue tones with subtle white shades and infused with 12 carat gold powder to capture the natural iridescence and metallic beauty of a real beetle.

Every detail, texture, and reflection was carefully designed to create the feeling of a living jewel, a delicate balance between nature, precision, and artistry.

For me, origami is not just about folding; it is about creating something that blurs the line between paper and reality.

This custom paper is now available for full commissions up to 40–50cm, with complete freedom of colour, style, effects, and finishes including gold effects from different grades of gold leaf and metallic details.

Some origami models are folded. Others are sculpted into life.

For this piece, I created a fully custom 6gsm handmade paper in shades of matte black with gentle hints of blue, finished with platinum white gold leaf specks. These subtle metallic flecks were deliberately incorporated to mimic the natural reflective markings found on the real Hispa atra, adding another layer of realism while preserving the elegance of the paper itself.

During the shaping process, I fully refined each of the model’s countless spines and carefully rounded the body to recreate the beetle’s distinctive armoured silhouette. Every adjustment was made with the goal of capturing not just the anatomy of the insect, but its character, helping to transform a single sheet of paper into something that feels almost alive.

This remarkable design by Andrey Ermakov is a perfect example of how extraordinary geometry, precision, and patience can turn paper into something you would never expect with one’s imagination.

This custom created paper is available for full commissions up to 45 cm, in any colour combination & optionally with a choice of 7-carat white gold leaf through to 23.75-carat gold leaf, allowing each sheet to be tailored specifically to the model it is created for (or for the flex)

There is something truly beautiful about watching an origami model come together. ✨

At this stage, every crease, every fold and every tiny detail begins to find its place. What may look like a collection of complex lines slowly transforms into structure, form and meaning.

For me, this is where the true art of origami reveals itself. Not just in the finished model, but in the journey of creation itself. Watching hundreds of intricate folds work together in perfect harmony is a reminder that something extraordinary can emerge from a single sheet of paper.

This is the moment where possibility starts becoming reality.

Happy 520 ❤️🌹

In China, 520 is often celebrated like Valentine’s Day, a day of love and meaning.

Just like this origami rose, my love for you was carefully folded with patience, intention and my heart.

This piece began with a special request from my girlfriend for this occasion, she asked me for a rose from black and red paper which I took that idea and turned it into something personal, this rose is a fully updated wine glass version with enhanced molecules by 寺禾, 谢谢！

I created a deep shades of red which gradually fades into darkness, with 23 carat gold powder placed gently in the centre, creating a glowing core line a gentle heart beat & with a subtle gradient effect ✨

Every fold carries full intention, just like every moment we share.

I’m so grateful for you. ❤️🌹
