AI sucks… and here’s why. It will never replace the human element of creating, of being in a space and capturing moments that you are experiencing. The energy, the feeling, the buzz of the room. So forget the AI slop people… it’s empty and void of anything exciting.

What initially drew my eye to Joel was his classic 40’s-50’s style outfit. He somehow managed to stand out entirely from the modern crowd while fitting in perfectly with the historical aesthetic of Durham.

I recently read a post about how modern street photography is often missing a crucial element of candid life; human connection. It’s so easy to just snap a photo from afar and keep walking, but the real depth comes from actually introducing yourself, meeting people, and learning something about who they are.

Taking a moment to stop and talk to Joel turned a passing visual aesthetic into a genuine exchange.

(Swipe through to read a bit more about his story!)

What do you think is the most rewarding part of taking portraits in the street?

Colour of the day. Set myself a little challenge yesterday to only hunt a randomised colour. Fair to say I had to get a little creative at times as there wasn’t much yellow kicking about in Durham 🤣💛

Here’s some tips for some of you beginners out there. I get asked from time to time for advice and honestly I’m self taught and still making mistakes, learning new techniques and trying new stuff. You’ll never find your true potential if you limit your freedoms!
The most important advice I can give is on the last slide. 👀👉🏼✨
