Colin Hyslop Photography After decades of photography being a great hobby of mine and people viewing my photos and telling me "You should sell them", that is exactly what I am doing.

This page has been set up to showcase photos that I have taken in the past and the many photos I am planning to shoot over the coming years. It's a big world out there and I am planning on seeing a lot of it and sharing the results with you. If you only 'like them', then that's fine and appreciated; if you share them with friends and family, that's even better; if you buy them, then that's the top

s :-). So call them 'photos', call them 'pictures' call them 'wall art' or whatever. Just enjoy them and I'll enjoy taking and sharing them.

A few days ago, I was passed an old image of Tairlaw Bridge and, not having heard of it, I was keen to find out where it was. I discovered that it was south of Straiton, so yesterday I set off to find it and photograph the location as it is now. It was a beautiful drive down through some stunning farmland scenery and these are the photos that I got whilst down there (taken from both appproaches to the bridge). I've included the old photo for comparison.

Happy new calendar photo day as we step boldly into June 2026. This month's photo is a selective colour image of Alloway Post Office & Village Store. The owner thankfully sold my calendar from the store and hopefully will stock my 2027 calendar as well.

On a bit of a roll today with reworked images of photos that have been sent to me. This one was of the village of Barr and the original image and the Google Maps view are shown in the comments below.

I will be looking out for this view when I head down there to take photos.

On another thread about Straiton, a gentleman, by the name of Kevin, sent me a photo of an old photograph of the Tairlaw Bridge, South of the village.

The photo of the postcard from 1953 is shown in the comments below, but I've given it a rework to colour it up and remove some of the distractions. I've also taken a snapshot off Google maps that shows how the spot looks now and that is also attached below. I love how it looked in the 1950s and the road curve draws you into the scene.

I now need to visit this scene to get a modern day image for comparison. I'll add it to this post when I do.

At one point recently, I came across an old black and white photo on FB, taken a long time ago, of the beautiful village of Straiton. I don't know who the photo was taken by, but I love reworking old photos, so decided to restore, colour and sharpen it up and the result was quite amazing.

I did, however, want to take a modern day equivalent of the same image, so last Monday morning, I knocked on the door of the lady who's upstairs window, I thought the image had been taken from, explained that I was trying to recreate an image and asked her if she minded taking a photo with my camera out of the window above our heads. She very kindly said 'You can take it yourself', so I ended up hanging out her window to take the shot. If this was your window, thank you very much for letting me take the image.

I now know that the photo must have been taken from someone hanging onto the chimney (I ain't doing that), but here are the three images for the comparison of time.

Rhona and I spent a gorgeous afternoon in the grounds of the stunning Blairquhan Castle, near Straiton, last Sunday, as they held their first Open Day in support of Whiteleys Retreat, a charity based in Ayrshire providing free respite breaks and extended support to children with cancer.

Also in attendance were my good friends Scott Nicol Music and Debbie Campbell Music along with five of Scott's Possibility Screams performers. I even got to batter out a quick Johnny B Goode with Scott backing me.

The weather could not have been better and the owners of the historic building (now an exclusive use only venue) were delighted at the support shown for this event. Here's to the next one.

Out and about in Ayrshire today, capturing images for a project I'm working on and found this scene on Maybole High Street. The car came out a side street, went away from me and then turned and came back down passed me. Very much right time, right place. Belter.
