This heron stood perfectly still as the sun set behind it, creating a silhouette I couldn't resist capturing. Sometimes patience really does pay off! 📸

📸 One of my favourite candid moments from a friend's wedding.

While we were all waiting for the groom to be ready and to actually be in a photo myself as one of the groomsman, I couldn't resist grabbing my own camera for a quick photo.

Thankfully I was quick enough when I saw this opportunity to frame a photo within a photo!

📸 Every hobby has a starting point…

For me, it was a simple walk along the Fleets with Jake.

This was one of the first photos I ever took that made me think, "I actually quite like this photography thing." The water was calm, this mallard glided past, and it turned into one of those moments that has stuck with me ever since.

I've also included a photo of Jake, my photography companion for many of those early walks. 🐾

Looking back, I never imagined those quiet walks would lead to starting Dawson Photography.

📸 One from our trip to Lizard Point — the most southerly point of Great Britain.

I really liked the look of this old jetty tucked away below the cliffs. It caught my eye straight away, especially with the colours of the rocks and the waves rolling in around it.

It's one of those places where you could easily spend hours just wandering around with a camera, finding different angles and taking it all in.

Definitely a place I'd love to visit again.

Easy, right? 😅

This lighthouse was photographed on the way to the Farne Islands, and I'm counting it as a small victory that it's actually in focus and not leaning at a 45-degree angle!

Definitely worth the effort though—the views on the trip were incredible, with plenty more photos still to come.

📸 Sometimes things don't quite go to plan...

I'd hoped to spend some time photographing Whitby Abbey, but by the time I arrived the grounds had already closed.

Not to be outdone, this handsome pheasant appeared nearby, almost as if he was keeping watch over the ruins.

It's a good reminder that photography doesn't always go to plan, but sometimes the unexpected moments turn out to be the best ones.

Has anyone else ever come away with a completely different photo to the one they set out to take?

This was my first attempt at photographing a live band in low light with no off-camera flash — just me, the camera, manual mode, and a lot of trial and error!
