HOW I CREATE MY UMBRELLA SHOT! 📸
I’ve been asked loads of times how I set these shots up, so here’s a quick behind-the-scenes look from start to finish! 👇
⚡ STEP 1 — Get the flash set up
Here I’m using MagMod’s NEW MagStand — ridiculously quick and easy to set up, which is exactly what I need on a wedding day!
On top is my Godox AD200Pro fitted with a MagSphere, pointing upwards towards the sky to create that spread of light.
📸 STEP 2 — Check the composition
Before bringing the couple in, I’ll take a quick look through the camera and make sure I’m happy with the composition and exactly where I want them positioned.
☂️ STEP 3 — Bring in the couple
Get them into position, explain how I want the umbrella held and make any little adjustments to their positioning.
🌙 STEP 4 — Dial in the ambient light
This bit is IMPORTANT.
Before worrying about the flash, I dial in my camera settings to get the ambient light exactly where I want it. This determines the overall look, mood and background exposure of the final image.
⚡ STEP 5 — Add the flash
Once the ambient is where I want it, I introduce the flash and adjust the power until I’ve got the effect I’m looking for.
Then… take the shot. 📸🔥
