Where Shadows Bloom Nature Photography

Where Shadows Bloom Nature Photography 🌿 Welcome! We’re Samantha & Phil — nature photographers capturing quiet moments in the wild. Hi there — we’re Samantha and Phil. Thanks for stopping by.

From tiny fungi to feathered visitors, we find magic in the overlooked.

whereshadowsbloom.picfair.com We’re just two people who love being out in nature, cameras in hand, chasing the quiet moments most people miss. This all started as something simple. Just walks in the woods, noticing the way the light hit the trees or how a bird would pause just long enough for a shot. We d

idn’t plan on turning it into anything big — we just wanted to hold onto those little moments that made us feel something real. Nature has always been a kind of escape for us. Life gets heavy, and the world can feel loud and overwhelming. But out there, in the stillness, it’s like everything settles. Through photography, we’ve found a way to breathe again. It’s not perfect, it’s not polished — but it’s ours. The name “Where Shadows Bloom” came from that place in between light and dark. Life’s not all sunshine, but beauty grows in the shadows, too. That’s what we’re drawn to — the raw, the real, the overlooked. We’re not professional photographers or nature experts. We’re just passionate about what we do, and we want to share it with anyone who feels the same pull toward the wild, the quiet, and the wonder that’s still out there if you slow down enough to see it. We hope our photos make you feel something — peace, curiosity, inspiration, anything at all. If you ever want to chat, ask questions, or work together, reach out. We’re always up for connecting with like-minded souls. I don’t always get the words right, but I try to photograph the quiet and the wild the way I feel them — slowly, softly, honestly

🐝 Did You Know? The UK Has Over 270 Species of Bees!
Most people only recognise honeybees and bumblebees, but the UK is actually home to more than 270 different bee species — each playing a vital role in keeping our wildflowers and crops thriving.

Here’s the breakdown:
🍯 Honeybee — 1 species
The familiar Western Honeybee that lives in large colonies.

🐝 Bumblebees — 24 species
Big, fuzzy and charismatic — including buff‑tailed, red‑tailed, tree bumblebee and more.

🌿 Solitary Bees — around 250 species
Tiny, specialised pollinators like mining bees, mason bees, leafcutters and yellow‑faced bees.
They don’t live in hives — each female makes her own nest.

🪰 Cuckoo Bees — about 30 species
These clever bees lay their eggs in other bees’ nests. A natural part of the ecosystem.

Why it matters
Even though we rarely see most of these species, they’re essential for pollinating the landscapes we love photographing. Every tiny bee plays its part.

Not just us that have kids constantly demanding to eat everything! This juvenile starling is just beginning to get his colours and stars coming through. They look bigger than their parents, they grow to full size in the nest, bulk up then fledge fully grown and fat.
