🌊 Back to Birnbeck Pier

Some projects are worth returning to.

We're back at Birnbeck Pier, this time carrying out a LiDAR scan of the North Jetty.

The combination of UAV technology and LiDAR provides a fantastic way of capturing detailed 3D information from structures that can be difficult, hazardous or impractical to survey using conventional methods.

The resulting data can provide a detailed digital representation of the structure, supporting further inspection, assessment and engineering work.

From historic structures to modern infrastructure, UAV LiDAR can help survey teams collect detailed information while reducing the need to physically access every part of a site.

🚁 LiDAR Surveys Supporting Renewable Energy Development 🌱

We’ve recently been undertaking LiDAR surveys on behalf of Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru, capturing highly detailed terrain data to support civil engineering design and infrastructure planning for renewable energy projects.

❄️ Winter LiDAR: great data… questionable waiting conditions. ☕🌫️

One of the big advantages of carrying out UAV LiDAR surveys in the winter months is reduced vegetation. Fewer leaves means better ground pe*******on, cleaner point clouds and more accurate terrain models.

The downside?
Fog. Wind. Rain. And a lot of sitting in the car waiting for a weather window that might happen.

Today’s workflow:
✔️ Excellent survey potential
✔️ Zero visibility
✔️ Tea from the flask doing the heavy lifting

It’s all part of delivering high-quality, survey-grade data knowing when to fly, and just as importantly, when not to.
