Imp is losing her foal coat and showing a very different colour underneath. These zebra stripes on the backs of her legs are called primitive markings, and are a strong expression of the dun factor gene that every Highland pony carries.

Her mum had them and a youngster, too, but she greyed out as she got older and you can't see them anymore. Will Imp eventually grey out too? Not sure yet - stay tuned!

Shrimp and Isolde came home yesterday. The rest of the herd was fascinated and kicked up a big dust cloud on the other side of the fence in their excitement 🙄 This photo captures the summer at what I sincerely hope is its zenith, with much-needed rain in the forecast this week 🤞
