Raw vs Edit 📸

The camera is only part of the magic when it comes to Wildlife Photography, the other part comes from the editing process, which helps take a RAW file, which can be flat and dull and turns it into a final image that pops and stands out.

I like to keep the editing as natural as possible, whilst giving the photo that subtle lift.

The humble Great Tit, foraging for food on the woodland floor. I absolutely love the aesthetic of this image and the serenity that it portrays. Elements of the forrest, such as the leaves, twigs and stones also add some lovely detail to the image.

Another Red Fox encounter 😍. It was a 4am start for me 😳 and by the time the foxes came out, i had a 15 minute window to get some shots before the sun rose and it became too bright for the camera. Although these foxes were a bit distant, I’m still happy with the shots that i was able to get. It’s always amazing to watch them as they are such special animals and one that i rarely get to see in daylight.

A Kingfisher image that i took at Christmas last year. I haven’t had much luck lately tracking down Kingfishers in my local area. I loved spending hours watching them last year, so fingers crossed they pop up again soon 🤞🏻.

Another Barn Owl shot from my recent encounter in the Scottish Borders. I had an amazing time spending a couple of hours with these incredible birds before sundown. There was a family of 4 and they took it in turns to come to the edge of the hole and peek around the corner, before flying out.

I have included 2 different crops to this post. I personally love the tighter crop, as it shows the detail in the Owl’s face and is something different to the usual wider/full frame crops. I would love to hear which one is your favourite in the comments 👇🏻

A Juvenile Moorhen calling for food 📸

On a recent trip to one of my favourite country parks, i saw this Juvenile Moorhen, which was walking on the path with its parents and asking them to bring food (something we have all done 🤣). Luckily, i was able to get down on the floor and set up for this shot, without scaring off the bird. I find that getting as low as possible always gives the best chance of getting shots with a beautiful background. This is the first time I’ve been able to get a nice shot of a Juvenile Moorhen, so I’m really pleased to add this photo to my collection.
