I was saddened to learn of the death last night (30th June) of Winnie McGoldrick (nee McAtamney) from Annaghclay Wood in Eden, in her 96th year. Winnie was brought up in Moyagney in the house where her brother Austin lives now. After marrying Patrick McGoldrick moved to Annaghclay Wood in Eden. Winnie worked in Teady McErlean's in Clady and has featured in many of the photo's from around Clady and the different outings. Winnie was a great Greenlough parishioner, attending many of the events in the parish in years gone by with her late husband Patrick. Over the years I would have called Winnie, for information and stories from her time around Teady McErleans, she had an amazing memory and loved talking about the people she met in Clady and how all her family where getting on.
I would like to pass on my sincere sympathies to her daughters Anne Marie, Angela & Una, her sons PJ, Enda & Adrian, her sister Margaret, her brother Austin, her Grandchildren, her Great-Grandchildren and the entire McGoldrick & McAtamney families at this sad time. In remembering Winnie I also remember her late husband Patrick, her late son Martin, her late parents Felix & Mary McAtamney, her late sister Maria and her late grandchildren too.
FAMILY NOTICE
Winnie’s wake and funeral arrangements have yet to be finalized, we will update them here as soon as they become available.

May Winnie Rest in Peace

Another collection of photo's which I have received recently are of the pupils of Portglenone Primary School from the early 80s right up until 2005, many of which have never been seen. Over time I hope to scan and maybe those who appear in them can get them from POP.
We go back to the P1's from 1996 as they get ready to take part in the egg & spoon race.

Can you name these young lads ?

POP was saddened to hear of the death today of Sadie Halferty (née Gallagher) from McGurk Villas, Gulladuff. Sadie was the mother of former Longlands, Clady resident Cherie McLaughlin. Sadie was a lovely lady who enjoyed a chat, she would talk about her late husband Jimmy when he played in the different Showbands and Ceili bands.
I would like to pass on my sincere sympathies to her daughter Cherie, her sons Paul, Jim, Michael & John, her siblings Maureen, Bridie, Evelyn, Margaret, Noel & Martin, her Grandchildren, her Great-Grandchildren and the entire Halferty & Gallagher families at this sad time. In remembering Sadie I also remember her late husband Jimmy and late siblings James, John, Sally, Hugo, Liam, Patsy and Michael too.
FAMILY NOTICE
Sadie’s wake will officially begin at her late residence on Wednesday 1st July at 10am.

A lot of the photo's we have seen this month of in and around Clady came from the May McGuigan collection, mostly taken in the 1950s, of the faces that once worked or where around Teady McErlean's back then. In this photo we see three former Glenone Shirt factory workers enjoying one of the workers trips the company had back then, LtR Jack Ferguson factory manager, Kathleen McErlean who worked in the office and Davy McMullan who worked in the cutting room.

Do you remember these people working in the factory ?

We go back 62 years to 1964 and a photo from an old newspaper, of the head girl and head boy from St. Mary's Intermediate School, Clady along with the local Parish Priest.
On the left we have head girl Ann Diamond from Bellaghy and head boy on the right was Paddy Sweeny from Portglenone. In the middle was the man who fought to get both St. Mary's Primary school and St. Mary's Intermediate schools opened back in 1962 Fr Thomas Hegarty.

Do you remember these two as head boy/girl ?
