How much time do we actually need for couple portraits?

One of the most common questions couples ask when planning their wedding timeline is how long to set aside for couple portraits.

In most cases, you don’t need a huge chunk of time, it’s more about being intentional with how it’s split.

I usually recommend two short sessions of around 15 minutes each.

The first is during the drinks reception. This is a great opportunity to step away for a few moments just the two of you, while also making sure you’ve got those beautiful early portraits while everything still feels fresh and full of excitement.

The second is ideally during golden hour (the hour before sunset). This is when the light is at its softest and most flattering, and it naturally creates that warm, romantic feel in your images. It also gives you a quiet moment together in the middle of a very full day.

You can also use these two sessions to create slightly different looks. For example, wearing your veil or suit jacket for the daytime portraits, then removing them for a more relaxed evening feel. Some couples even use this time for a subtle outfit change if they’ve planned one.

Splitting couple portraits like this means you’re never away from your guests for too long, while still making space for those relaxed images.

Because ultimately, your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot, it’s an experience. The photos should fit into the day, not take it over. 🤍

At the weekend I headed over to to capture Imogen and Ollie’s engagement photos. They were the lovely winners of the engagement shoot competition I shared towards the end of last year.

The shoot was beautifully styled by Georgina from .uk. Just look at those dreamy florals and soft drapery. Every detail felt so romantic and thoughtfully put together, creating the perfect backdrop for the photos.

We finished with a few outdoor portraits once it brightened up, making the most of the dry weather. I had so much fun capturing these!

Life lately 🏡💍

The start of 2026 has been a whirlwind. After months of waiting, we finally moved into our new home - emotional goodbyes, car meal deals and a lot of gratitude for family who helped us along the way. 📦

That evening, amongst unpacking boxes and still in my moving clothes, Phil completely surprised me by getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him. I didn’t see it coming and it’s already one of my favourite memories. 🥹

After photographing so many love stories over the years, it feels incredibly special to now be stepping into my bridal era. I’ve seen first-hand how meaningful these moments are, and it’s a lovely reminder of why I love what I do so much. 🥰

A new home, a new ring, and (finally) WiFi - 2026, you’re off to a good start ✨
