πŸͺΎ I'm getting ready and quite excited for this weekend - it's the BS5 Arts Trail!!

A lovely variety of artists and makers are exhibiting across east Bristol - I'll be at St Anne's church in Eastville (not in St Anne's!!!) from 11-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, with my prints, books, zines and cards, as well as various plant-fibre weaving projects I've been working on...!
See you there πŸ₯

πŸ—“οΈ Diary dates for the autumn πŸ’š I'm going to be at a few arts trails over the autumn months, starting with BS5 Art Trail on 5th-6th September, then St Werburghs Arts Trail on 3rd-4th October and finally Totterdown Arts Trail on 14th-15th November. See you there for lots and lots of local art and creativity πŸ‘‹πŸ»

I'm quite delighted to say that these photographs I took of my dad have been selected to be shown as part of 'The People's Garden' exhibition, running alongside 'Is This A Garden?' at the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool. They'll be up for the rest of August so if you happen to be in the city please go say hi to them!!

The main exhibition has work by some photographers I really admire, such as SiaΜ‚n Davey , so it's quite lovely to think my images will be in the same room!

Through the later stages of early-onset Alzheimer's, my dad retained a pure and infectious sense of fun and wonder. He also became unexpectedly enamoured with aeroplanes - keeping a lookout for them in the sky, throwing models in the air and spinning himself around, arms outstretched. He would look up at planes, and subsequently birds too, and say wistfully, "If only"...if only he could fly. 🩡

Bindweed as wrapped twining around ribwort plantain stems.
❇️
I've had bundles of bindweed stems drying for a while and have been eagerly awaiting their readiness so I could have a play around with them. Turns out, it's the perfect material for all sorts of weaving purposes, and I love love love how it looks here around the plantain stems - both materials shining with a surprising array of colours and tones.
❇️
My response to finding lots of bindweed in a garden has very quickly shifted from dread to glee - a recent juicy crop on slide 3.

My hands were kept busy at yesterday's BS4 Makers Market, coiling this basket from dried daffodil foliage cordage 🌼 now it's found a spot atop the kitchen dresser until it goes for sale at the next market!

Mega thanks again to Naomi Evans for bringing this new local market to life - there was such a lovely feel to the event yesterday, with workshops and craft activities going on all day, within the relaxed atmosphere of the beautiful hall of St Cuthbert's Church. And so many friendly and talented makers!!

Catch the next market, they're on the first Saturday of each month πŸ’š
