The Indian Palm Squirrel is a tiny ball of aggression. Solitary animals they are extremely noisy and when two of them encountered each other near where we were enjoying coffee the constant stream of abuse was comical. These squirrels only grow to about 30-40 cms in length, but make up for it in attitude.

Visiting the Anshi Wildlife Reserve in Karnataka one of the real highlights was seeing Indian Giant Squirrels. The average length of an adult is 80 cm including the tail, but they can reach up to nearly a metre. Living in tropical rainforests these stunning animals nest near the top of tall trees. By comparison the British red squirrel averages about 50 cm - roughly half the length.
