Hidden away in Greyfriars Kirkyard in Edinburgh is one of the most famous graves for Harry Potter fans… the grave of Thomas Riddell. ⚡️

Of course, Potter fans will instantly recognise the name, as Tom Riddle later becomes Lord Voldemort, one of the darkest characters in the Harry Potter series. Because J.K. Rowling wrote much of the story while living in Edinburgh, many fans believe this old kirkyard helped spark some of the names and ideas that found their way into the wizarding world.

Whether it was direct inspiration or just one of those eerie coincidences, standing in front of the grave definitely has a strange feeling to it. A real person from history, buried in a centuries-old Scottish cemetery, now forever linked with one of the most famous villains in fiction.

Greyfriars Kirkyard is already full of history, legends and atmosphere, but for Harry Potter fans, this little corner of Edinburgh feels like stepping into the pages of the books. 🪄

Have you ever visited the Tom Riddle grave?

The Dark Hedges in Northern Ireland 🌳✨

What an incredible place this is. A road lined with ancient beech trees, twisting together above you to create one of the most atmospheric places I’ve ever seen.

Originally planted in the 1700s as an impressive entrance to Gracehill House, the Dark Hedges have become one of the most photographed spots in Ireland, and it’s easy to see why. There’s something almost fairytale-like about walking beneath those branches, especially with the stories of the “Grey Lady” said to haunt the road at dusk.

Fans of Game of Thrones might also recognise it as the Kingsroad, but even without the TV connection, this place has a magic of its own.

A beautiful, eerie, and unforgettable little stop in Northern Ireland. 🍃

Some places in Wales just feel like they belong in a legend, and this stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is definitely one of them. 🌊

Walking along the coast near St Govan’s Chapel, you’re surrounded by huge limestone cliffs, crashing waves, sea birds, hidden history, and views that honestly stop you in your tracks.

St Govan’s Chapel itself is incredible, tucked right into the rocks as if the coastline decided to keep it safe. According to legend, St Govan hid here after being chased by pirates, and even now the place has that magical, mysterious feeling about it.

Carry on along this part of the path and you’ll find even more dramatic sights, from Stack Rocks / Elegug Stacks rising out of the sea, to the famous Green Bridge of Wales, a natural arch carved by the power of the waves over time.

It’s one of those walks that reminds you just how beautiful and wild Wales really is. Rugged, peaceful, historic, and full of stories.

Definitely one for the list if you love coastal walks, hidden history, and proper Welsh scenery. Just make sure to check access before visiting, as parts of the area can close when the firing range is in use.
