Happy New Year everyone!
I've been rather rubbish at sending cards so here's a quick update.
Turn away now if you prefer bad news to good.
All is well! My boys (of course they are men, but they're still 'my boys') are great, my husband has had a tough work year but has made it through and is as fit & lovely as ever; my dog is funny, keeping me fit & making me laugh; my extended family have all made it through the year and I have a new great-nephew (4 months old), and a very new great-niece (4 days ago!). 2025 was an epic year for me. Lots of long & short holidays with people I love. Work in 2025 was brilliant! My best year yet, and I burst through the 100 shoots mark by doing 114 shoots in total, not including the many Barnes Goldens dog shoots for the calendar. So, 18 years into running my own photography business I am taking more time off, working more (better?) when I am around, and making more money. Hurray! I fully appreciate how hugely lucky I am and totally know that the health of those I love is the most important thing. Wishing everyone a very healthy, happy, adventurous, love filled & successful 2026. PS The photo is one of the top moments of my year taken the day after a direct hit hurricane in Bermuda. No apology to anyone who found this post irritating.😘

Mum’s (Penni Harvey-Piper) funeral service will be held at 10.30am on Thursday 14th November at
St Mary’s Church, 30 St Mary’s Road, Wimbledon, SW19 7BP

On Saturday morning, 2 weeks before her 96th birthday, my beautiful, clever, multi-talented, fiercely independent, funny & wise mother died peacefully. She left from comfort of her own home, in her own room, when her 3 offspring were for once not at her side, the carer had just washed her, changed her into clean PJs, brushed her hair and put on clean sheets. In control to the last. She had all her marbles intact to the end, and was interested and interesting about such a variety of things. I know entirely how hugely lucky I, and my 2 siblings Kerry Harvey-Piper and Ian Harvey-Piper were to have such an awesome mother, and her 10 grandchildren such an inspiring grandmother. I also know that she had many, many friends from all backgrounds & all ages who will also miss her hugely and those of you lucky enough to have had her as a singing teacher have filled your pockets ever since. We will post here when we have a date for the funeral. I took the photo below on my mobile in Richmond Park in September 2020 after a long walk with her, it's unedited. I really hope we've inherited those genes. What a woman, what a mum, what an inspiration.

It's finished! A labour of love. Over the whole of this year I have had the absolute pleasure of photographing the Calendar 2025. The Barnes Goldens are made up of pretty much all the Golden Retrievers in Barnes, SW London, over 100 dogs, started by the wonderful Anne Mullins who is the brains behind the calendar. The most dogs we had at one shoot was 42, glorious chaos! I will post a few more photos of the months over the next few weeks but here is the front cover as a taster. All proceeds will go to the charity Wild at Heart Foundation. So if you, or someone you know, would like a calendar featuring photos of beautiful Golden Retrievers and some of their doggy friends and help a worthwhile charity at the same time, please get in touch. Warning, a 'blowing my own trumpet' post ahead:
I just received another lovely email from a recent wedding I was lucky enough to photograph:
"Wow! Thank you so much for sending us the fabulous wedding images.
The smiles, laughter and life are really encapsulated in the slideshow, they do truly capture the happiness and love and fun of the day, I am so pleased that Niki found the time and chose you as the photographer for the day. You were (and are) professional and v good at being unobtrusive yet there and able to herd the cats into some semblance of order in the gardens without any concerns. Easy to work with and easy to be with - keep in contact.
We will send some of these out with the slideshow - fruitful for the future I’m sure.
We were both really pleased - a special day for us that went smoothly!

Back in April we very tragically lost our gorgeous wonderful little dog Skye to a stomach tumour. We still miss her hugely. We have however decided to add a new member to the Sharp family - introducing Isla, 11 weeks, Mum’s a chocolate Labrador, dad’s a Merle coloured toy poodle. (Well done the Dad!🤣🤣). Life currently overflowing with joy & exhaustion!

Very, very pleased with my new (70-200 f2.8) lens purchase! Just spotted a beautiful Jay in my garden (a rare sight in my back yard!) so got this through the (not very clean) glass window. Love the clarity of the bird & my buddleia tree trunk compared with the blur of the cherry tree background. Makes my garden look a lot prettier than it is!

Not often I’m the other side of the camera. In spite of such a tumultuous year, it's actually been pretty good for my business, with lots of new clients, interesting (mostly outdoor) shoots and the return of many of my favourite clients - thank you so much. Many highlights, including photographing Princess Anne and winning an award! Wishing you all a really positive, in all but Covid 19 testing, 2021!
